Doctor said quit riding

After 30+ years of riding, I had a situation at the house that sent me to the Emergency Room. Seems that my equilibrium is now messed up. So it looks like after finding my dream bike...I may have to sell it and quit riding. What should I ask for a 2008 w/ABS, Corbin Seat, Gen-Mar risers, grip puppies, V-Stream windscreen/and stock, OES frame sliders, Wynpro Fatfoot, Newish PR2's (about 95%) and Saddle bag liners. The bike has about 5K miles and was just recently serviced. Would like to get as much as possible and pay off the DX bills coming in.

having to sell your fjr sucks, it really does. But losing your equilibrium to the point you can't ride... that sucks worse. Good luck with it Bro...

Well, if the buyer is a forum member who's user name is: Willboe, a fair price would be: $318.28 . . . Also, get some more opinions (on your health condition), and take Turmeric extract with Bioperine tablets (it's food with amazing 'anti-inflamatory' charistics). Also, for other buyers: you probably should ask $9200 & see what happens.

Don't lose all hope for future riding. I have a good friend that aquired some form of vertigo about 5 years ago. Now, through medication and diet, he's back to riding and doing good.Best of luck with your recovery!

And I do hope they're wrong. After a while you just run of of things they tell you you can't do anymore.

Sorry to read of the health problems, hope the Docs are able to get you fixed up and going again.

Regarding the FJR, it sounds like a nice one. A good current rule of thumb [if you want it to sell] is about $1000 per year, so an '08 is going to go quickly if priced at approximately $8000. Suggestion on the extras...they don't add a lot of value, so strip them off and sell separately. You'll be able to price the bike lower and still recover most [60-70%] of the value from the extras.

Got to agree you may have the problem for 1-6 mnths before you find a solution. Medical condition can change and get better

A long time friend of mine has had TWO cases of Menagitis a few years appart ,he now gets flu type systoms occasionally and it may afffect his balance once a year . He hasn't stoped riding, he only stops if his balance is affected . Go see a specilist and talk to him like a friend and see what he says .

Get a 2nd opinion and get it from someone that is know for these issues. Go on line and find the right guy. I think there is a book published on who the best doctors in the country are. Let me tell you a little story. My cousin was an instructor pilot for the air force during Vietnam. He flew F4's. He was miss diagnosed with a inner ear issue and grounded. WHen he has been in for 18 years as part of his regular flight physical they corrected the issue and asked he he wanted to go back to school and relearn how to fly F15's. He said no that he did not want a Captain to be his wing commander when he was about to be a Full Bird. So get the other opinion. That way you do not change your life for the wrong reason. Remember they do not call in practicing medicine for a arbitrary reason.

Ah man that is the saddest thing i have ever heard, however doctors regularly do miss diagnose things, as far as they are concerned once they have put a name on it 90% of their job is done then at that stage, therefore i would strongly suggest a second opinion (i have seen misdiagnose in my own family with horrendous results). :angry2:

In the mean time, I would keep the FJR until you are sure of the condition you have and whether it can be solved or not. If not and you feel that you have found the dream bike maybe an FJR custom trike is worth considering????

Anyway i hope that your health will improve very soon and don't make any rash decisions because of your condition, take plenty of time to make the necessary changes, be it biking or otherwise. All the best, Good Luck

You are going to want a second opinion on this. Rexford, at our age we have seen the Dr.s a zillion times... and at least half that they have been wrong. I would hate to see you have to loose your bike.

i had vertigo myself. it will likely pass. There is therapy for it also if you need. Medications are available too.

Dont sell yet. likely stress caused the vertigo and it will pass.

I don't know if my symptoms match yours, but about 5 years ago, I woke up and when I sat up in bed, I immediately lost all sense of balance and dropped back down to the mattress. Lasted for a short while and was really affected if I quickly turned my head in any direction and have severe vertigo. I thought I had a stroke. Anyway, over a few days things improved to the point where I was back to normal. Occassionally for a few years after that I would have the same thing happen again, but not ever to the extreme of the first time. Went to the doctor and he said the little hairs in the middle ear get crossed up or something like that and he said what works for some is to sit down and to quickly shake your head from side to side for 30 seconds or so a couple of times and that works for some to end the symptoms. Never worked for me though. But anyway, I have not had any reoccurances for at least the last several years. So they can just go away. If that helps you. Don't know if what I had is what you are suffering from though. Point being, I would not rush out and sell the bike just yet. See if things get better.
