Are they reliable, fun, and enjoyable as a different type of bike?? What's the buzz?

I saw some back when they were "Boss Hog" s. Don't piss off HD or use any name they even think of putting a patent on!  :(

Someone tried to do this years "Iron Butt" on one, He over slept his alarm. He may have just over slept (it has happened to more than one IBR starter!) or he got worn out trying to throw that thing around, Who knows?

I would not try to "Whack open the throttle" unless it was 100% upright.

I guess for a cruser it is the ultamate "yea, top this (yea , my penis is microscopic)."

Hi Rogue

I read your article...now I don't now if it is the time of day or my biorhythms are out or what but I didn't understand a word you said?

Why should you want to know? ;)

I had a guy ride one to my office. This guy was twice my size. 6 foot 4 and brawny. He actually almost looked proportional on the bike.

I asked him what he does if he drops it over. His response: Call a tow truck. And he was serious.

He loves the bike. His wife rides one too, a trike. Very pretty. The guy has had more than one. They ride them all over, although they trailer them quite a bit behind a gazillion dollar motor home.

I sat on one at a Harley dealer. Too much bike for me. Heck, a full dresser Harley is too much bike for me. YMMV.

I can offer no personal experience, but I can say that there is a guy at work who has one and he loves it. I have never sat on the thing, it is his baby. He says it is comfortable and well balanced. I saw a really nice one in the Keys riding around. He always had his SO with him and everytime I saw him he was revving it to show off the power. It damn sure sounded good. My personal opinion ...... in all the ones I have ever seen, they are either really nice or really ugly, there was no in between. Wait til Biketoberfest, they will probably have a vendor booth, they always do at BikeWWeek.

I've seen them at the shows a couple of times and new a guy who had one--or something similar with the small block Chevy V-8. He liked it--he had owned a V-Max but it had scared the crap out of him, and this didn't.

They are big, they are heavy (300 lbs more than a 'Wing), they are expensive and they are NOT faster than an FJR. They also only have one or two forward speeds--I forgot which.

I was "lucky" enough to get to take a test drive on a 350 Chevy equipped model at Sturgis last year. Straight line acceleration is quite simply amazing. Burnouts at 80 are easy.

It is VERY heavy. Not for the smaller framed amongst us. I am a pretty big guy and it was a handful for me. And then there is the handling...imagine the worst bike you have ever been on and then magnify it 10 times. The one I drove had a flattish back tire...it fought your attempts to lean it in the corners and when you did you were on the edge of the tire. This thing is long. Handle bars were tiller style and you sit back 3 feet from the steering head.

If you think the FJR is wide, well, the Boss Hoss is not going to be your cup of tea. And we won't even talk about the heat...

:diablo: :diablo:

They have a two speed tranny. From what I have heard they are VERY reliable and if you own the small block version parts are *PLENTIFUL* any in the country.

They are one of those things you should experience once...

:mmm:

I camped in Sturgis in 2003 next to a guy who rode a Boss Hoss from Oregon. I believe the bike was about 4 years old at that time, and he told me he had numerous problems during his ownership. He said the thing was low quality and he would not buy one again. I remember giving him a helping hand while he tried to get the jammed up fork lock to release.

He had over 50,000 miles on it. If a person only rode it one Sunday a month so it sat in the garage most of the time maybe it would be O.K. <_<

Cycle World did a comparison of the big cruisers in its December 2004 issue. The Boss Hogg ZZ4 model had a 350 Chevy engine that made 385 HP and 390 ft lbs of torque at 3800 rpms. It did 60-80 mph in 1.5 seconds.

Fuel mileage was 19.6 mpg and it weighed 1,245 pounds. The wheelbase was 80 inches and the fuel tank was as wide, if not wider than the engine. It made the Triumph Rocket III look small and narrow.

One of the comments was "Factor in limited cornering clearance, and turning tight corners doesn't call for countersteering as much as it requires hand-to-hand combat"
