Cdog I am sure glad that you and the Mrs. are doing well and did not suffer any serious injuries. It is kind of sad to see all the vultures circling the carcass of the FJR so soon after its demise. Hopefully you will both be up and riding again soon. I suspect you are getting a little pressure from some of the relatives to give up the crazy idea of riding a motorcycle. That is always a part of it. Take care and stay well.
I am sure it seems that way.. Fukin guys picken on me like that...

Mr Boomer.. It is not that way, trust me.. We go back some ways and have some history.. GunMD could even show you a picture or link thereto said Yammi gold cart.. He is the one who took it as we were fall down drunk in my front,,, well my neighbors front yard..

I would rather be swappin **** with these guys than anything else.. There is plenty of love here... Any one of the crew here would do anything for any of the others.. both ways.. I am glad gun is happy with his hottie.. then he will stop drollin over mine.. And Howie... I mean WTF is this guy huh... LOL

No worries.. these guys all have my respect.. they have earned the right to give me ****...

Hmmm,, Good thought... I think I have it solved though. RogDeb fired one of to me today.. Worse case.. Stall for another day or two... and do the swap.. I gotta get my PCIII, My Autocomm pro 7, My blue sea fuse box, and my NEW (and evidently not sticky enough) Strada (that has 125 miles on it) off the front,, and my almost new BT021 (evidently not skicky enough either) off the back..

I even took the 5 gallons of gas out of it for the mower, no reason to let that go to waste..

Dog ~ Glad you were able to arrange for a shock from RogDeb! Excellent!!!

I'll bet you can buy a few days extra from the insurance company if you let them know that you are pursuing a Public Disclosure/Freedom of Information action with the State of Utah, and that the carcass of the bike may be needed as evidence because of the substandard condition of the roadway... just a thought.

I wish you and Kenra (thank's GunMD for correcting my spelling error!) nothing but the best as you pursue this. I applaud you for being willing to point out the dangerous conditions that exist there. The insurance company should applaud, too!

Go get 'em!

Don

Well Crap... edited to add: Meant to say that even studded ice tires wouldn't have been able to save you *** on that stuff!

Glad to hear you are both OK. Even better to hear your positive attitude after the slide!

You paid for the gas...no sense letting it pollute a landfill/wrecking yard!!

Late to the thread, but I am really really glad you guys are ok. I can't say I read every response, but I can't think of anything you could have done to save the trip down the road. I am really gratefully you guys are ok, but probably sore. I never heard of oil and grease seeping up from a roadbed except on extremely hot days... weird! At least if you were going to crash you did it the right way and made it a complete loss with no major injuries. Now let's all stop this ****...

You know, I was just gonna let this go.. But Ric in Sac has sparked some interest in pursuit..
I DONT want this to happen to someone else.. May have to get after this one..

Ric, How do I find the appropriate people to start this trail with?

I have a TON of pictures.. out of habit for *** covering

Jackplanet514

I have need to a stock shock IMMEDIATLY.. THIS WEEKEND.. I have a Penske triple Clicker that I do not want to send back with the bike (that is now sitting in my garage)
Auburn FJR gave good advice. I would add this:

I don't know how UDOT is orgainized but I would expect a District Office responsible for this particular section of roadway. You write them a letter complaining about the hazard and include your photos on a CD. It should work its way to the Traffic Safety Office which will conduct an investigation, including a review of the accident history. I think your theory about coal dust is spot on and you should mention this as well. Public entities normally respond promptly to complaint letters because they are discoverable in future litigation if there is another accident. The last thing they want in their files is a complaint letter that was ignored.

On a separate track you contact UDOT (probably the legal offfice or "claims" office) and ask for a claim filing form. You fill it out and submit it where dirrected. This will usually go to the legal branch and trigger a separate review. This will also protect any future legal claims you may have.

Having said this, your insurer may, with this same information, chose to pursue reimbursement of your claim, including your deductable. However, your insurer looks at this simply as a business decision. You look at it as cost recovery and a method to have this safety problem addressed before someone else has a similar get-off -- this time with a car coming the other way!

This is not a large investment of time and, even though we like to joke about Harleys, Beemer drivers and squids, we are all brothers and sisters on two wheels. Regretfully, a lot of public agencies do not think about the motorcycle users on its roadways so once in awhile we need to remind them -- politely of course!

You know.. I am SO very impressed with how I am treated in my time of need.. I am not really freaked out about the wreck, was not really at the time of the getoff.. little adrenalin to burn off and then into the logistical morass of getting the bike home..

This SUCKS... But I am not freaked out.. I am SUPER humble and grateful by the outpouring for help and concern.. "Impressive" does not adequately state my opinion of the people here..

RogDeb.. Thank you.. Really truly.. I did not want "The Man" getting my penske

Ric in Sac

So it shall be.. Thank you!!

I agree about notify the local DOT. Seems to me that the state has some real liability there. Roads have to be of some minimum quality and that road is not.

FWIW, your slide was incredibly long, proof positive IMO that something is seriously wrong with that road.

I imagine that a local race track or perhaps drag strip might be able to measure the 'slickness' of that portion of the road.

Glad the two of you are ok.

Thanks for the detailed write up. I am sorry this happened to you and your wife. It is good to see all the support you have on this forum and I know it makes you warmer inside during this tough time. I had a similar speed get-off about a month ago. I was angry for a while, now I'm just a bit scared. Congrats on your ATGATT decision.

Everyone recommended I see a doctor after my crash - I recommend the same for you and especially your wife.

CON.. I agree.. the road is hosed....

Texan.. Not even a scratch to look at..

Barabus.. Yup

I am not really angry,, I am bummed.. Getting a new bike will be difficult.. I have been hit by the recession... I could not qualify for a bike loan right now.. and I dont have the dough to buy one..

This too will pass
