Sad story. Happy ending. It could have been the other way around. You guys were smart to be wearing the gear, and keeping the speed down was the second smart thing you did. Glad you guys are both OK.

Robin,

If the road is deemed a hazard.... and utah had prior knowledge of it....

sounds like a new FJR is in order.... no warning signs about coal / oil seepage ....

just sayin.....

B

opportune one.......

Damn dude! You don't need to do this to get attention!

Bummer, man. Sorry to see this.

VERY GLAD you and wifey are ok. **** like this just ain't right. Some freak-*** crash that wasn't your fault. Fuked up.

Glad you guys were ok. Always nice to see that the gear works. Sucks about the road. Sh!t happens and sometimes there's nothing to do but dust yourself off and move on.

Alexi

Oh yeah, before I forget, I don't know if anyone brought it up, but I'm curious . . . what model is your replacement bike going to be . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . ? lol

My next FJR will also be an AE.. I bought the first one on a chance.. It has been a fine steed.. No reason to change..

There are tradoffs between A and AE.. I like the AE

I am starting on the path to the Government now

Update

I have filed a preliminary report with the State of Utah DOT.. They said they will have an adjuster contact me..

I included pictures and a writeup.. They were nice and polite, a bit distracted, but then again this guy was pretty busy.. We will see where it goes.

I am on a mission to get the road fixed..

Also VERY glad to hear you're both okay. You would think, with those kind of conditions present, someone would think to put a freakin' "PAVEMENT SLIPPERY WHEN WET" sign there  (What are the chances your insurance company will agree and hold the state (or county) responsible for the accident and get them to replace the bike?)
+1 (sorry if I'm a little late)

Glad you guys are OK. Sounds like what was on the road afforded about the same traction as diesel fuel (been there, done that  , fortunately at slow speed).

Your experience hopefully reinforces many folks' commitment to wear their gear, even when it's not convenient or comfortable (like here in TX right now :beach: ) to do so.

Very, very sorry to hear about your accident. But very glad to hear you and mrs. Cdog are OK. From the looks of your bike, y'all are very fortunate to be able to walk away from that.

And condolences on your bike too. It hurts to look at it. (mine is cerulean silver too).

Actually, the pics of this crash motivated me to buy new gear. See my Not ATGATT thread. I almost feel like I'm riding on borrowed time, in my shorts and t-shirt. Always wear the Shoei, though. So I'll be aware of all the pain I'm in. New gear should be here in a few days!

Skin grafts scare me, as does permanent brain damage

Hey CDOG -- any new news about your government interface?

Not yet.. I have sent a cleaned up version of the ride report herein to the UDOT guy in charge of that stretch of road.. He is the Risk Management guy. He was very nice and polite.. He told me he would forward the report on to a adjuster.. I figurred I would give him a couple of days and call.. So I went to call Friday.. and had forgot that Utah Gov workers are on 4/10ns so no one around friday..

I plan on following up Tomorrow (Monday) to see how things are progressing.. I really dont know how fast to expect them to move as I have no frame of reference for this interaction..

I dont want to be pushy... unless they need pushing.. So far, everyone has left me feeling like they care and have been polite and attentive.. The results are not yet realized, whatever they may be. I will keep everyone informed

I do not preach about gear.. Some do (anything Toe?) but I am very very happy to hear this.. I have actually crashed twice.. Both time with the wife, both times in full gear, both times unscathed (both of us)

both times would have been absolutely horrible without it.. Even though we did not hit our helmets either time.. My first was a lowside.. and we slid 150 feet,,, this time 273 feet.. Both times the road ate all the way through my ride pants and holes in my jacket.. One time it tore one of the armor pads out of my pants.. This time my wife has a large bruise on her elbow... through the armor!!

My wife and I both wear shoei as well.. and neither time did we hit our helmets.... we did destroy ALL!!!! of our other gear we had on..... Good for you Mike.. I am truly happy to hear something positive came out of this!!
