A while ago I posted a thread about upgrading to a goldwing or keeping and modding my FJR. I've decided to mod the FJR.
Hellcreep chimed in (BTW, AWESOME paint job!) with some very good ideas and I'm trying to learn from his "mistakes" (I'm sick and tired of learning from my own!). He suggested that next time he would wire everything to a fuzeblock in a tank bag so everything was in one specific spot and the bike would have a nice clean look for daily commuting, and a tank bag would hold everything necessary (including connections) for the long trips.
So I'm wondering what is a good tankbag that will hold it's structure, and how safe it is to have a fuzeblock in a tankbag. I'm figuring on adding a Starcom1 Digital, wiring for my Garmin 2710, an aux output or 2(for a cartype power adapter), and I'll have a few spots open for some other stuff should I decide. Right now, the bike I bought (used) has some sort of outlet that was used with a widder vest. That's wired directly to the battery so I'll be looking for some sort of adapters that allow the fuzeblock to be put to it, and also an adapter to use for a trickle charger which I hopefully won't ever have to use (I intend on riding ALL the time!).
So are there any tankbags that woud be conducive to this? I'm looking for one that will be safe, waterproof (or at least have a waterproof covering), maybe a waterproof map holder for me to put a phone or ipod in so I can still access pushing buttons but it'll be safe from rain, maybe something that won't blow up in my face, a slow burning material perhaps, and anything else you can think of. Also, it doesn't have to be too big. Just big enough to hold my garmin and a few other small things. I use the luggage for anything big.
I'm gonna add it to the list, I have about 9 months to keep an eye out for sales and buy and have it shipped to my woman's house. Gonna build up the stuff I wanna put on, have a few things done by a local shop when I get home that I can't do myself, and then ride/mod/ride/mod/etc. Something REALLY great to look forward to!!!!
So any advice? Anything you'd do different? Hellcreep planted a great seed about having a centralized hub keeping a clean bike and, as he put it, removing the "ritual" of preparing for a ride. And I have no problem with working with someone's idea. ESPECIALLY if it's a good one.
