I just got back from a little CO loop. I figured I wouldn't have time to go back after WFO. I went to Royal Gorge and did the tourist thing, then 50 (fabulous!) across to Montrose (it was 102 there), then 550 to Ridgeway and then out the backside of Telluride on 62 to 145 which was AWESOME! I also went through Rocky Mountain National Park. It's not a back road, but it's almost all a NEW road. Even though you only do 35 throught he whole thing, it is VERY cool. The vistas (at up to over 12000 feet!) on the road side are spectacular.
Last year I did the north rim of the Black Canyon of the Gunnison. There was no one there and they were just re-doing the road. Some really fun curves on that one, and the canyon is impressive. Blue Mesa reservoir is at the east end and that area is really pretty, too.
Still more places to ride in Colorado. So many roads, so little time....
Glad ya got back okay there Rocket. I will be taking the family out there end of this month via the family truckster. Sometime, I will be doing it on the FJR...I think I'm heading west on the FJR next year.
I just returned from riding in SW Colorado . . . . AMAZING ! I think my favorite was Blue Mesa Resevoir to Lake City to Creede. The area around Durango to Ouray and the Telluride are are also to die for. If you have the time it is worth the extra effort.
