Remember this is the anniversary of the 1967/1968 Summer of Love in San Francisco. JB do you remember it.... You Berkley Philosophy Major!
Here is a picture of me in my senior year at Berkeley standing at the base of the Campagnile on May 15, 1978, celebrating Norwegian Independence Day with a bunch of fellow Norwegian students. I'm holding a class textbook,
The Empiricists. (My 18-yr-old daughter has this picture of me framed in her bedroom.)
When I ride now, 30 years later, still wearing Ray Bans....
Hey! This is a milestone year for me: 30 years since I graduated. ****. I'm old....
But not as old as Old Fat ******* or even Dr. Rich, who remembers the Summer of Love, which occurred 10 years BEFORE I was at Berkeley. Let's see.... In 1967-68 I was living in Massachusetts and wearing a peace symbol around my neck while hanging with my 8th-grade buddies. A salient memory from 1967-68: walking down the middle of our neighborhood street at night, four abreast with arms around each other's shoulders, singing
Hey Jude at the top of our lungs.
And just for the record, I didn't smoke pot...much.

As an afterword, here's a picture of me and my son (with the Campagnile in the background), who is now a senior at Berkeley (physics--which is a lot like philosophy, only, uh, you know, true). Still wearin' those Ray Bans! (My sister's comment after seeing this pic: "You son's a better dresser than you." Yep.)
