I have the rear wheel off my 06 to replace a tire. Only a little over 1000 miles. I guess pulling the DR is just taking off 4 bolts, but I wonder the need.

Do a search on "splines". Others have been talking up a storm about this recently. Yam has a bad history of under-lube of critical points. The search will spell out the details and solution.

Did a search and all I found were x-rays of Sparky's back and pictures of TWN trying to hump a cactus at WFO.

Oh...you said SPLINES!!!

Silly me. :p

With all the pics and stories I have heard about the FJR being bone dry, I plan to lather mine up at every tire change. It appears to be a very simple task that even I cant mess up according to my wife. :)

Just changed tires on my 06, pulled the driveshaft & was happy to find everything had been lubed at the factory. I did clean & relube w/molly.

You used up a tire in 1000 miles? Wow!

I don't think it is necessary to lube the drive shaft at every tire change, especially if you are using them up that fast, but you should check it the first time to make sure it has adequate lubrication from the factory.

Wished I could say I ride hard enough to wear out a rear tire in 1000 miles. But, this time a large roofing nail convinced me to order a new tire. Have ordered several tires from www.swmototires.com , low price and got the tire in 4 business days. They won't accept phonecalls but, prompt e-mail replys.

I figured you weren't really burning through tires that fast. :) I have been buying from swmoto lately myself, though tire prices have been going up lately everywhere.

Back to lubing the drive shaft, IMHO once a year should be more than enough. I have a list of things that I do once a year, during the winter lay over. The list includes lubricating things, changing fluids, new plugs and air filter, tightening everything, stuff like that.

Have to agree with Geezer on the required frequency. Lube it once and early in life just to let (her) know how it feels when done right. Then save that bit of extra effort for your anniversary each year.

Crap, there I go again, confusing the FJR with women. I'm starting to feel this weird attraction toward a 634 pound female. SAVE ME!!!!

If you can locate it, Maxima makes an excellent grease that's typically made for MX bikes. It's simply called Maxima Waterproof Grease and comes in the typical plastic cup. You won't be disappointed!

Just a quick question on this lube the DS thread:

Anyone use Krytox by DuPont?

Just wondering.
