Drop Club renewal

Well, apparently I decided to renew my drop club membership today.

As I was leaving a gas pump, I was turning around it (essentially a tight, slow speed u-turn), and failed to give it enough gas and/or let out the clutch too much. Engine stalled as the bike was already leaned over quite a bit to make the turn. No way I could save it, and down it went! Thankfully I had frame sliders installed, so that got scuffed a little, and the right side saddlebags got some asphalt love marks.

So, what's the expiration period of the drop club anyway? How often does one need to renew to maintain membership?

yeah, idle and everything is fine...this was purely operator error. I would blame it on the fact that I've only had it just over a month and am still getting used to it, but after 3000 miles, I should have a good feel for it

There are about a hundred ways to drop the damn thing. For me it was get on bike, put kickstand up, decide to get off bike, forget to put kickstand down, realize I screwed up with one foot on the ground and one in the air, drop bike on driveway, spew out string of expletives in front of my 14 year old. Hopefully I learned my lesson and I don't want to renew my membership.

Maybe you should consider looking into an AE? :lol:

Hopefully I learned my lesson and I don't want to renew my membership.

Your are a member for life in the drop club. Even if you get a new bike and do nothing to join, it is always assumed you are a "member in waiting"...

I feel fortunate that my two tip overs happened when no one was watching.... the down side to that is not having someone to help you pick her back up.

My thinking is I am more then happy to drop the bike at zero mph instead of doing it at speed. ...which is a club I rather not join.

Well if it's gotta go down, in the driveway or at slow speed is the best way.

One thing amazing about the drop when it happens, especially in a public view....

. The burst of energy you get, mostly from being pissed off; and how fast you pick it up before you realized you just lifted a large hunk of dry weight back up.

Almost joined the club myself. I got back from a short ride today and kinda had a lapse. Normal routine is, turn bike around in driveway, back into garage, put down kickstand, and get off. I got the last 2 steps reversed, got off the bike first, then put down the kickstand. I had to grunt some holding up the bike while standing on 1 foot getting off, kept thinking, this doesn't feel right. When I put the kickstand down it dawned on me what I had done. Lucky for me this bike doesn't weigh that much, if it had been either of my previous bikes, road king or roadstar, I would have been thrown through the side of the garage.

Never would have happened with an AE. They have drop detection. A small accelerometer that detects free fall that deploys a hidden spring that boings you back upright.

You don't have to worry about when you need to renew your menbership, it's an automated renewal system, when the universe feels your due it will go ahead and renew your membership.. and it will leave you a receipt..lol

Oh no...since I haven't yet dropped the FJR I didn't think I was a member of this infamous club. However, my previous ride wasn't so lucky.

Well that goes for me too then. My last bike was a Bandit 1200S. The damn kickstand was notorious for not fully deploying. Of course there was the one time I stopped in a friend's driveway and forgot to put my feet down. That was an interesting moment. One of the guys I was riding with said "that was special!".

I hope I don't renew with the FJR. I put it on the center stand all the time.
