So, sumo, are you the first unfortunate to drop an '07? Bummer, but it is a distinction, albeit of a dubious nature.

So who's gonna be the first person to take a picture of their dropped bike before they pick it up? I haven't seen one of those yet....

Hey Sumotony,

I too have some pain... I just dropped my bike this morning, turning her around to leave my garage. I can F#$@'n believe it, no loose gravel no traffic. Just two bikes in a large two car garage and me waddling over one of the bikes (My brand new 3week old FJR) and I still lost it. I just called Roseville Yamana to order a right side rear view mirror and right side saddle bag. $603 dollars. Both upper and lower cowlings also got small scratches and I was just thinking Hmm... today I think I'll order some frame sliders. I wonder if they would have helped....

I feel your pain as well as my own...

That sucks Keone. She's one heavy SOB huh. Yes, frame sliders probably would have helped. Maybe you should cancel your parts order and call university motor sports, they give excellent prices to fjrforum members. You don't need the whole saddle bag, just the lid.

I think you faired worse than I, and perhaps frame sliders could have saved you. I had frame sliders that buried in the soft road bed all the way to the fairing. I would probably have gotten even more damage without them.

My condolences. I feel your pain, and my prayers will be with you on your loss... The good thing is that you are O.K!!!... Better to have a scratched bag than a scratched hip or broken leg; there is no matching paint for those.

My advice as to painting plastics, take it to someone or a shop known for good attention to details, which also uses the right materials (paint, additive, & prep). The place where the actual painting is done should be as clean as possible (even a fruit fly will ruin a wet part, and last but not least fine sanding between coats will enhance the final outcome. Some places will actually paint better than factory specs. Do not use wax products for first three month after the painting is done, it will dull the shine. You should use 3M or any reputable paint non wax hand polish. Advanced AP, Napa, or PepBoys should have a few.

Looking forward to share a ride with you as I also live in the Atlanta area and have a Coors Light, I mean silver bullet (2003 FJR).

Thanks for the condolences Berde. I have not gotten any estimates, and it might be possible to replace parts about as cheaply as painting. I have a couple of leads on Pauleez Custom Cycle and Wicked Ways Custom Cycle that specialize in bike repair/painting and have talked to a body man in my neighborhood that I actually have confidence in as I have seen some of his custom work. He specializes in restoration of Corvairs.

We will have to hook up for a ride and brewski, if you do not mind riding with an old fart, and somewhat of a novice. Not a lot of helmet time as I took this sport up just about a year ago on an '06 Roadstar midnight silverado V twin. Put 4000 miles on it and traded on the fjr. Prior to that I owned a 750 Honda for a short period of time in 1974-75 while you still had training wheels on a bicycle. I do enjoy riding though, just may not have the skills for the type riding you probably enjoy doing. I did manage to make the 318 curves in 11 miles last year on the Roadstar on a group ride on US129 in Tennessee.
