That sucks...especially in front of the wife. Hope the guys in the truck were not harley riding neighbors or you may not here the end of this one.

Yes the ABS works in gravel. It is where I test mine. I have a 8-19 degree incline in the first part of my driveway.(rear brake test only)

Was this an ABS machine? Would it have mattered at all?
It's not, and I'm not sure if it would have made a difference or not - I think I was coming in too hot - I stopped and examined the detritus today, and I don't think that the front wheel locked as much as I had the front turned and I think it kinda got into the stones and slid, not so much from being locked, but from not negotiating the turn angle.. so the wheel was turned to the right, but the bike was still moving forward.

Glad u r OK!!

Once you have that custom paint job, you will feel much better.

I see another thread coming on for suggestions

Sorry to hear your spill. Glad you weren't hurt. As posted earlier, call Gary at University Motors. He'll square you away with good prices.

And in the future when you see your wife, keep your eyes on the road and just do this... :beee: and be cool. :agent:

Sorry to read about the dump. Good to see that you are not hurt too badly!

I learned a lesson the hard way: Never apply the front brakes while turning into gravel. I went down so fast I hardly could believe it. JUst lost the front end. This was on my previous bike.

I can see you painting the FJR pink with chartreuse polka dots. :D

Sorry to hear about your mishap. I sure hope I never have to suffer that kind of embarrassment or worse on my baby.

If I ever have the need to repaint, it will have to be Fire Engine red with gold leaf trim. :)

OCC fan?

(Sorry, couldn't resist)

I was out today for a dice run with my dad - about 80 miles, all in the rain and I'm n worse for the wear - I was a little nervous getting back on, but that wore off after about 5 seconds.

I've got some ideas on the paint, depending on cost - from just repairing the damage back to stock, to all over single color (black maybe, or deep red), or maybe a fade, from black up front fading to white on the saddlebags.

I also really like the two-tone silver and blue that someone posted on the Yamaha France site a week or so ago.

I also have this idea of taking the bike to the paint shop, and handing them all sorts of Star Wars photos, Tie Fighters, Star Destroyers, etc., and say "Here's the inspiration, do whatever you want"

I'm such a geek..

Naw, fire engine driver by trade. I think the FJR would look cool dressed in FD trim.

I heard an interesting story from a buddy who watches American Chopper. Somebody gave Paul Sr. a new Harley and he gushed all over it like it was the nicest bike he'd ever seen. I guess he knows what kind of 'quality' work he's putting out for his high-bucks choppers.
