Dropped your '06 yet?

Funny you should post this topic. After putting on 4 miles in the dealer lot, (big lot, old Kmart store) doing slow 8's and circles, adjusting controls, bedding in the brakes, determining lean angles, etc.... I finally entered the war zone known as street riding.

Good plan!

My first thought was... don't be the first one... don't do anything stoopid..  and then a young fella in a old Toyota pick up truck proceeded to blow through a red on my green arrow left turn.
My first thought? The forum is going to roast me if this idiot hits me...

I'm sure we would have nothing but sympathy. Hopefully, not too much sympathy. :sad2:

I made it through no problems.. just gassed and went.. but still. I was all of .4 miles from the dealer when this happened.

It happens. Every day. It's like a very high stakes video game, called "Everyone's trying to kill you". And, unlike games, you only have one life. So stay alive and win.

Just this am my friend on his Triumph triple dropped it in the parking lot- but not for the common mistake of forgetting to put down the kick stand- but for leaving the bike in neutral on a slightly downward angle. It doesn't take much for the bike to begin moving and the kickstand to move and whammo-
The only damage we could find was a broken clutch handle- that he says was designed to break on a tip over...

Do not leave in neutral at a stop- whether that being parked or at a stoplight- you never know when you are going to want to pop it into gear quick to get out of the way of a car that doesn't see you.

No neutral! I have this argument with my riding buddies all the time; and today one of them lost that argument

that's the only supersticious bone I have in my body---every bike has at least one drop in it. People wonder why I wont replace my cover plate? welp--in a nut shell--that's why! soon as I do, over it'll go! :lol: Maybe I should leave the scratches on the plate and just cover it w/a guard

Who has Moto sliders installed on their '06?

Is it true we don't need the '05 bracket and they will go directly to a motor mount making installation easier?

Sweet! They're cheaper, and you don't have to remove the lowers to put 'em on. So no excuses...

I guess that my crash pads doesn't help a lot, because those foot shields comes out so much, that damage will be there anyway...I don't want to try it.

Here's one for the ages. I bought a used 2005 FJR. Then pre-ordered a new 06. Got the call today that my bike was in and the dealer was offering a good deal on trade for my 05 as demand for them is high. So I got my 05 ready, and started to back it out of my storage area. Something I'd done a thousand times. (Now remember, I'm on my way to take it to the dealer to pick-up my new 06 as a trade-in...and I've never put a scratch on it). It catches a rock or something, and bam, down it goes. Damaged the left faring, engine cover plate, left-side case, and tore the mirror off! Is that IRONY or what?

P.S. The dealer estimated the damages at $800 and took if off the trade value, so I still picked up the 06 with only a bruised left ankle and ego to show...

my put: Picked up the bike [05, 0 miles], drove home, stopped on the inclined driveway,

-- opened the garage door

-- got back on the bike

-- tried to start it with the kick stand down [didn't work, obviously]

-- pulled the kickstand up w/o having my feet set just right [29-30" inseam], and

.... TIIIIMMMMBEEERRRR - scratched plastic on fairing and bags before even getting her in the garage. DOH!! :headbonk:

Anybody do it sooner [and willing to admit it]?

I think I got you beat on my Connie, The dealer delivered it to my house, I rode it to the gas station 3 blocks away, filled it up and rode it home, tried to put it on the center stand in my garage with 6.6 gal of fuel in it....... over she went!

So I dropped it after 6 blocks!
