I would have to agree. I have seen barrels fail for several reasons before, but they just don't peel that far back like a banana.

Not to argue with the idea that it is photochopped but the Mythbusters aren't always completely accurate. Always entertaining but not 100% reliable.

If it's held to be true on the in'nernet, then same could be said for TV. Besides, I said it's ********, so it is. :bleh:

I gotta go w/ TWN on this one. I could believe a bulge or a one side blowout but not a symetrical 4 peeler.

I also saw the mythbusters ans they WELDED A STEEL ROD into the barrel of a 30.06 (I believe, a Highpowered rifle in any case) and only got a bulge IIRC and blew the rod out.

A shotgun with a slug and welded gave a slight peel

I've seen more that a few M16's after being fired w/ barrels full of sand, sludge, dirt, etc....and I've never seen anything like that picture. In every case that I personally saw the damage took place in the upper receiver of the M16 (where the barrel attaches to the "action". I also dealt with the aftermath of someone firing a live round through the barrel of a M249 Squad Automatic Weapon (SAW) with a blank firing apparatus (BFA) attached to the barrel. Even with this fairly stout device secured firmly and properly to the end of the barrel, that 5.56 didn't do a damn thing to the barrel. The recoil sure sucked for that guy...it cracked the buttstock and shattered the aluminum buttplate. This was years ago...wish I had pictures.
