Glad you are OK. The pain is good because it means you don't have full thickness or third degree burns.

Hope you didn't apply butter like our Mom's used to do! And for the next DS who wants to try that trick, the proper emergency care is to stop the burning (cool water is good) don't apply ice or burst blisters, wrap in dry, sterile dressings (although some protocols say for <10% of the body moist dressings are OK). Getting to the ER is a good deal cause burns to the hand are a big deal.

Heal fast.

Cheers,

7X

Ouch!
Did you get any Tequila?
I didn't get to Mexicali. When it was 91 deg. in Kettleman City at 2:30am I decided to turn around and head home instead of facing the heat on the return trip. I don't enjoy riding when it's over 90, and the heat increases the farther south you go. So I decided to wait until the weather cools down and try again. I did find a 6 pack of Gordon Biersch Marzen in the front seet of my Jeep after returning from emergency tho :yahoo:

Try putting the gas in the carb then putting the cover on before cranking. Don't ask why I know this. Where I work there are burns quiet often and we put ice water on them first and it works wonders. That is where I use to work, they retired me today. Shut the lube plant down. Expect motor oil to go up even more. Heal up quick so you can ride.

Whoa.

Sorry you got burned. Hope you heal up quickly and with as little pain as possible.

Holy crap...we're gonna have ta put up a hospital wing on this FJRForum pretty soon.

BTW, I have -in the distanct past -primed a dry carb before starting it as well.

What did you call it, a carberator? Whazdat Ray?

Hey bubba, heal up, I hear the flowers are blooming in the valley again..

It's gonna be a bit before I can get down there Don. It's about all I can do to shift the Jeep.

Took a photo today at emergency when they were changing the bandages today, but I'm debating on posting it as it'll gross people out :p

Spent many a very cold morning in northern Canada/ NWT / Alaska spraying cans of ether into carbs to get engines started in 30 - 40 below temps. And lost a lot of facial hair, etc. Many guys doing this had a semi suntan from the process.

Hope you heal quickly!

I did this years ago in a CJ-5 and it worked for me! I had a fuel pump failure near the top of Donner Pass. It was in the winter and it was snowing profusely. So, my buddy drove the jeep while I leaned out over the engine (we took the top down and strapped the hood up) and poured gas down the carb. while we drove over the hill. We then we coasted downhill to a gas station (Nyack?) on the other side.

Maybe we were just lucky???? It seemed like a good idea at the time.

Pictures!!!, I want to see pictures!! :D

You want impressive burn pictures, try electrical burns. Initially nothing special, but wait a week and the insides rot out.

Now that is terrible to see.

Sometimes I wonder with stories such as this and wonder why I am still alive. Had an old Willys overhead four that was notorious for not starting. Eventually put a tube directly to the carbs so I could just shoot it up with starting fluid. Lucky this never happened to me but probably should have. Glad you are ok .

Doc said it was looking good at the checkup and rebandage today, so all is well. Pain is almost nil too. Only 1 problem, anyone got a roll of left handed toilet paper?

:p

Burns, no fun. Glad you're doing pretty well. I have just enough red on my neck to have done this in the past as well, but luckily with no burns. It all came to a stop when a "friend" was trying to get an old ryder truck started and while watching him hang precariously from the engine compartment pouring gas from a 2.5 gallon can into the carb I suddenly realized the half smoked marlboro hanging out of his mouth. Dumb bastard was trying to get us all burned. You've never seen me move away from something so fast.......................

You know, when I first arrived on this forum, many thought my screen name was odd. It's funny how fitting it has become as time has marched by.

Heal fast, man. Burns suck.

Quick update for those that are interested.

I went to the doc Friday, and the doc was surprised at how fast I've healed up. As of yesterday, my hand is healed enough that the I'm only using 1 bandaid on the thumb, the rest is open air, painless, and looking very good indeed. Not to shabby for only 1 weeks healing time.

Thanks for all the kind words and support B)

Sorry to hear about the little mishap and glad you're okay! Life is full of those Doh! moments when we learn something that we pretty much already knew. I know we have all had our share of learning the hard way. Take care and heal up quick. B)
