Follow-up...

I took my bike to the dealer today and related the above story. In short, the problem "does lie with the ECU" and the pressure sensor within it. The problem is covered under a re-call for certain bikes with specified "vin numbers". Sorry I can't say what the range is as I did not get that. The dealer is a major seller of FJR's in the area. The Cycle Shop located in Huntington WV. The problem appears when you ride above 3,000 feet. The owner of the dealership is an advid FJR rider and has had a similar problem while out in Colorado. The fix is covered by Yamaha.

In short...thanks to all who provided comments on this problem. Hopefully, what I have posted may be of assistance to others.

That's why I asked if you'd had it replaced ! I did mine first chance I had. Good to hear your almost back in FJR heaven... :friends:

The problem occurred on Monday of this week, dealer closed.

The dealer is 100 miles from my home....can't make the trip on Tuesday....gotta work.

Wednesday, make trip to dealer, "confirm the problem is due to "altitude pressure sensor within the ECU". Replacement part ordered.

So, I guess I did as you suggested!

For more information on the FJR altitude sickness than you an shake a stick at, take a look at the pinned post above titled:

I am sure I wasn't but for reasons beyond me searches don't come easy on this sight for all the non-standard terminology, or other folks out there who seem to have a problem with new users of this forum asking for or making comments about anomalies with their bikes. After a while it gives one the impression that this is a somewhat hostile environment to ask questions. Thanks for your post.

Cool yer jets, Gomer. Just wanted to let you know how big the issue was, and who you had to thank for getting Yamaha to own up to the problem. There was no judgement or malice intended in my post.

And yer welcome...

Windchaser,

For future reference.

I'm one of the few people that still uses the Forum search engine. Assuming you set the "+key+words +correctly" the main problem that Members, especially new ones have is searching the correct Forum.

So you know for future reference, just entering +ECU+problem results in thirteen pages of various posts. This is if you entered those key words in the Tech/Mech Problems Forum.

Around page 6 things referring to the ECU problem you had start to show up. It does take a few minutes to wade through the chaff but it is there. While the "non-standard" terminology would have resulted in a "kill" right away, it isn't always required.

Most use the Google search feature and it performs very well. I use the old method so as to try and remember where I saw the original thread. A definite advantage a newer Member does not have.

Good luck.

PS... Important items relating to the Forum are often pinned in the top section aptly referred to as....Important Items.
