I am a FNG. I have run a search and also googled the topic at site: fjrforum and didn't find the answer. I am terrified that what happened to Geezer2 a couple days ago might somehow happen to me. Man that was brutal. But here goes anyway...

My new 07 AE has the ECU altitude sickness problem. I called a couple local area dealers about the recall and the jerks wanted to impound my bike til the new ECU came in...needless to say I didn't go along with that. Finally called the dealer I purchased it from(far away but had the only FJR around these parts at the time) and he said ok I will get it ordered(I had done my homework on this forum and he knew it...thanks). The ECU is at the dealer's now and he says he will mail it to me if I want and I can change it out myself and I say hell yes it will save me a 350 mile trip. Now for the question...it's just an unplug/replug changeout right? Easy, right? No way to screw it up, right?

Thanks Joe

My dealer did mine, but I looked at it and it is a big plug that is plugged into the ECU, so it should be very straightforward. I'd say go for it.

I did mine at home . It is a very easy process. Took me about 20 minutes from start to finish. Remove the seat, remove the tool tray under the seat, remove the left side panel, unplug the ECU. Change it (2 screws hold it onto the bottom of the tool tray) and put everything back together. Here's a link to a thread on my ecu issues, there are some photos there that will show you where it is located.06 ECU replacement link

Thanks. The link did it for me. I will change it out myself.

I still haven't figured out the search feature. Typed in ECU and should have gotten the thread you sent me the link to...but didn't. This seems to be the norm, judging by the several unsuccessful searches I have done. ???

Thanks, questions answered

Just for future reference, the search feature, while not the greatest, will work.

Two things need to happen:

One is the proper search wording as in your case +ECU+swap (or+ replacement) The + symbol is of importance (as stated in the forum section on how the search feature works).

Of equal or maybe even greater importance is searching in the proper forum. I used the "+ECU+swap" keywords but in the tech/mech forum. Still got a lot of unusable threads but about half way down, there was the ECU replacement thread.

Many members are now "Googling" their search but the Forum engine will work,if you have a little time to kill.

Oh and good luck with the swap.
