I searched with google and didn't come up with anyone that had bought one. I've had my eye on this one for a bit now and finally pulled the trigger on it yesterday. I bought the main console and a techmount to hold it on. I should receive it in a few days so I will document with pictures the install. Also I didn't bother with the visual alert because I have the starcom and will be connecting to an audio input for radar alerts.

I'm looking forward to getting it, I do a lot of early morning riding and late night riding so it would be nice to have some early warning, I don't go supersonic in the dark but I do ride faster than posted. I figure 1 ticket will cost much more than the cost of the radar so I'm buying it.

I know there will those who say to buy the valentine, or the other big name I can't think of, but I'm trying this one, mostly because I ride in the rain frequently, and like the waterproof feature.

The techmount set up I bought is a stem mount type, but it has 2 mounting platforms at the top of the stem which can be independantly adjusted. Probably will use the second one for zumo or some other future purchase.

Ill be doing the install later this week, and will post everything later in this thread.

I have never heard of this. I thought you were buying a radar gun as you did not add the word detector to your post. I found them on the web and it looks like a nice detector. their home page is click for link. It sure has some great features, but how does it stack up as a radar detector against the V-1 or Escort as far as letting you know where the speed traps are? I'll have to keep an eye on this thread and see how you like it, t looks interesting.

There are some youtube videos on it out there if you search. Ill post on the effectiveness of the unit as soon as I am able.

Not too pricey, but...

"Console is water, shock, and vibration resistant."

"mostly because I ride in the rain frequently, and like the waterproof feature."

resistant is a relative term, proof involves submersion to a given depth for a specified period of time.

I like the wireless adapter option but I hope it doesn't eat batteries too quickly.

I just ended up putting my Bel V955 in a plastic bag and it has survived through some pretty good rain.

I've read several reviews about this radar detector, this one is fairly typical. In a nutshell the TPX sensitivity is too low and it falses too much. If you turn down the sensitivity (switch from highway to city) the falsing goes away, but so does any effective radar detection. You do get some motorcycle friendly features but it also has some unfriendly functions.

If a person is wanting to buy a radar detector you want the best you can get because it is (1) ticket yes or (2) ticket no; rarely is it sort of a ticket. A so-so detector puts you in the (1) category most of the time so why even bother to buy one.

I run a high end car type detector on a quick removal mount. I've run many detectors of this type for years without having a weather related problem. My radar detector is placed so that it gets some protection while I'm moving and I will cover it with a baggie for intermittent and moderate rain. If it is raining hard I just remove it. LIDAR does not work in the rain and most police don't work radar details in the rain. Heck, I even slow down in the rain so the detector is kind of moot in foul weather.

I have had one on my Feej since May or so.

It's not bad, certainly better than not having a radar detector.

It has saved my *** at least several times.

The wireless helmet speaker eats the battery more frequently than I would like, and no, it's not rechargeable.

Buy several 2450 batteries and keep them handy - that's what I do, then when it dies you can just change it when you have a moment.

The water proof feature is displayed very well in the youtube video showing the install on a BMW K1200. The guy poors a watering can of water all over it. As far as submersibility, I don't think that is an issue.

False alerts don't concern me all that much, because on my travel route to and from work I know all the spots where they typically hide/work... Its just that I can't see until I'm right on them, and its too late by then.

Ill admit right up front that this isn't going to be as good as the valentine, but neither is the price.

Ill let you know on the effectiveness soon. My piece of crap cobra has kept me ticket free for years in my pick-up, so I'm not seeing the need to spend a fortune for the bike either. I don't plan on using the wireless headset anyway, so no batteries needed here. The starcom has 2 open audio jacks right now anyway, so I'm plugging it into that when I get it.

Damn straight. A wet trooper is a stupid trooper.
You crack me up, I almost spewed my coffee on the screen! But I guess this explains why OCFJR and I didn't get stopped on the way to WORD! by the OSP sitting in the median by La Grande. It was raining cats & dogs and we were in a hurry to be out of it, and I guess he didn't want to be in it.

Water generally takes time to work its way in and do its damage, so, a few days later, it may start acting a tad funky.

As far as the difference between "resistant" and "proof", I was just approaching it from a specsmanship point of view, not actually suggesting the submarining of your FJR. <_<

My experience with water and radar detectors is extensive. Please don't become as educated on the subject as I am. It's expensive training!

:(

It's not water from a bucket or hose that instantly destroys RDs. It's rain. Rain has an acid PH that conducts electricity much better than tap water, and rain quickly corrodes electronic assemblies.

I do wish that Valentine and Escort would make their RDs in watertight cases.

Does not say if you can hook a Radar Screamer to it. I have had the HARD system and went to the Screamer. No batteries and you and anyone riding with you will hear it.

Well I chickened out on the tpx after reading the reviews from ionbeams post. I went with the escort 8500 X-50 instead. Works great, worth every penny. Should definately get the proper cable from bikeeffects though if your thinking of getting it. Stereo audio cables don't work right with it. Get the attenuated sat/nav cable if you want to use it with starcom. I got a slick little stem mount with 2 mount platforms on 1 stem so my GPS sits right beside it. Ill get a pic up tonight. Clean looking anyway. Mount is from techmount.

I've had mine since late May/early June and other than a little glitch with the helmet speaker, I had been happy with it.

Until, a couple weekends ago I was out riding and it just died. Checked the power cable to no avail, and tried holding down the power button for longer than usually necessary, but still dead. A week later I pulled the wiring out from inside the dash and checked the fuse and it's still good, so I have no idea why it decided to go sleepy after all year, not to mention about 5 hours of use that day prior.

Gonna contact Adaptiv and have to send it back I guess.

Jmarran, I'd call them up and ask for a new unit if it's still under warranty.
