Here's the complete laundry list of Herky-jerky throttle mods performed on my 07:

1. Throttle cable slack removed from BOTH cables (near handlebar and near throttle body).

2. 3rd throttle return spring unwound one turn.

3. G2Ergo throttle tube installed.

4. Oversize grips (SunLine Touring) installed (size does matter).

5. Precise throttle body sync performed with my new CarbMate electronic sync meter.

6. PC-III USB installed. Running slightly mod to stock map. Running slight mod to AP Street Rider program.

7. 2005 Clutch Slave Cylinder installed to replace stock slave.

Today was day two with all the mods in place. I have finally matched and slightly exceeded the smooth shifting and cornering response I enjoyed on the 2005. Life is good!

I'm riding the Outer Banks this weekend.

Is the '07 really that bad in stock form?

WOW!!!! $400+ to make it run as good as a gen I bike.

Yamaha is not impressing me at all.

I spent less money, but a whole lot more time making the 05 comfortable. Heat was a huge issue and I finally reached a point where drastic measures, specially fabricated add-ons and that sort of thing was next on the list.

So I feel I traded all that (potential) effort away on the 2007 that just required a bit more cash, but way less effort. Make sense?

Plus, I could have used a PC-III on the 2005 but felt it was "good enough" with just the Barbarian Mod. The 2007 was clearly over that line and IMO requires the PC-III to smooth out. I need to stress that IMO the 2007 with the PC-III has attained a level of smooth throttle response that was not achievable on the 2005 without a PC-III. The 05 just didn't need it as badly.

+1 on the Gen-1 clutch slave retrofit onto a Gen-2 bike (in my case a 2006).

Here are both slaves. Gen-2 on the left, Gen-1 on the right:

The Gen-1 slave makes the clutch considerably more progressive and reduces the effort -- A Good Thing in my opinion.

In my experience, comparing two different bikes of the same year, one may need a PC-III more than the other. Go figure!

Hey, what do you think of the old/vs new slave cyclinder?

I've done all of these mods and can really tell the efffect of the improvement!

But I will add one thing that i have truly felt added to "buttering up" my 07' A and that is the R-1 shift arm. Reduces the shift moment required by your left foot an this is of great benefit. The irony is that for somthing that has a limiited amount of machining reqiured, it was more expsensive than the new 05" clutch slave cylinder?

Yamaha marketing genious!

I definitely like the old slave cylinder better. However, with the oversize grips, I am forced to run the lever in position-4, rather than my usual position-5 (wide hands with short fingers). There is not enough deflection range to fully release the clutch against the fat grips with the lever in position-5.

Hand fatigue is greatly reduced with the Gen-I slave. It's just better all-around.

this thread is proof positive that the last truly good year for FJR builds was 2005...
Yeah, those Gen-1 bikes were hot stuff! :yahoo:

I'll go so far as to say hand pain is eliminated.

Never a Gen I owner but I can tell you in stop & go traffic the Gen II slave cyclinder was wearing on me. Replaced and now

have a much more liveable clutch pull.

As for the throttle, after 1400 miles, this is really a big disappoint for me. I have the G2 tube and compared to any other

bike I have ever owned the throttle response on this just plain sux.

Not sure I am going to go to all the trouble others have done to get more improvement. I am however really looking forward

to first reviews of the C14.

I've also got the Gen1 clutch slave cylinder on. The action is lighter than my VFR - which is a GOOD thing.

I'd really like it if the bite came earlier though - maybe my next farkle (but I'm worried about clutch slipping)

Anyone have the part number and instruction for replacing the slave clutch cylinder?

As for the throttle response, the g2 and pciii were absolutely necessary for my 06.
