When sitting on the motorcycle my right side bag fell off my motorcycle and tumbled down the road at 35 mph. I recovered the bag and it was damaged but didn’t open. The bag was properly mounted and locked in place at the beginning of the ride. In fact the day before I rode 8 hrs without incident and in the mean time only opened the bag to get stuff out. Further, I was riding for one hour before this happened. So, has anyone experienced this?

Sorry to read of the mishap, but at least the bag was recoverable and survived its 35 mph get off... You were lucky up until the bag fell off. I don't think the bag was ever properly attached. I can't pull my bags off the mounting points when they are locked and latched as designed.

Here's what probably happened.

You can lock the bag underneath the tab part with the key lock (that you pull to allow the bag to open).

If you mess with the bag, you'll see what I mean. It looks like it is locked, but it's just stuck to the other release part insted of locked in the locking mechnism.

Hard to explain, but if you only partially latch it then turn the key, you'll see what I mean.

Sorry about the bag though, those puppies aren't cheap!

Drill through the bottom mounts and pin the bags with cotter pins
That is not necessary when the bag is properly mounted.

I agree with Keithaba, if you go to lock the bag into place, the handle goes about 95% of the way down and the key will lock it in place, but the tab that secures the bag isn't seated.

I've pushed, pulled, jarred, etc my bags when properly seated and locked, and they simply will not come off.

If, when seated, you look back at the bags and see the red label on the handle -- the bags aren't locked on.

It is possible to not put them fully on -- I take mine off an put them on fairly often; I always try to check them -- lower front mount and underneath tab.

I gotta agree with the previous posts. A bag falling off is due to operator error. It is nearly impossible for a bag to simply fall off. It is however, not that hard to put them on wrong. I would bet they would fall rather easily in that case. Sorry about your mishap. Dropping bike parts sucks.

Let's not forget the option of dealer forgot to loc-tite the bag locks.

See the FAQ section for details.

As SlapNPop mentioned, see the FAQs.

For your further searching pleasure and for others who may not have heard of baggage bowling, there've also been a number of threads on this subject and threads for which screws to secure so they don't back out. (BTW, the new Connie C14 and other bikes have had similar or worse problems.)
