So I decided to install the electrosport stator on my 04 so that I could have more power for my lights, and possibly two heated vest (1 for me, 1 for the wife). Any way, it has been on and running for a couple of days. I spliced the wires and soldered the conections(like JimLor). It reads 14.1 to 13.9 when just running along. When I turn on my FF50's it drops down to 13.5.

I was checking the gasket today after I started the bike as I thought I had a oil leak. When I touched the three wires coming out of the motor, they were hot. The bike had only been on for a few minutes, so it was cold.

So my question is has anybody else noticed this.

Thanks

Neal

Once the bike is running, everything is powered by the alternator, it's normal for the wires to warm since the bike is kind of a power hog stock. Might want to check the connections at the rectifier/regulator for corrosion just to be safe. Only high flow, and resistance, will heat the wires-the stator isn't responsible for anything other than supplying the current demands of the machine .

Thats too hot, make sure that you did the soldures properly. By not doing so, it is the same thing has using a smaller wire than what u need.

Current going through the wires is like water in a river. If the river comes narrow, current will be higher.

Excess of heat comes from a higher current

[Hijack] My used '05 I bought *allegedly* came with the Electrosport installed, although I've never tried to verify that. Bike also has a voltmeter installed and I've never seen less than 13.2v running down the road with high beams, CCS100, and heated gloves on. That actually seems pretty underwhelming to me, given what few accessories I'm running, but at least I know it's charging. My question is, I know some of you have BIG miles on your Electrosports, so other than a handful of cases of defective ones right outta the box, or installation problems, has anybody had one of these puppies fail down the road?? Just curious.

[/Hijack] :)

DIdn t know that people have problem with them, out of the box. I bought one last year, didn t have the time to install it yet....

So for those of you also running a voltmeter, does 13.2v seem low to you for a stock bike running nothing more than a CCS100 and heated gloves?? Even with just the CCS100 running, I only show 13.4 or 13.5. I wonder if the voltmeter could be lying, because almost immediately after key-on, it drops below 12v even before I start the bike, and it's a fairly new battery. Hmmmm. I guess I need to bring my good meter home from work and compare.

Dave - does to me. I ran my Datel thru my BlueSea so I may be reading .1 or so low, but my grip heaters (Dual Star) only drop it .2 or .3 at high. Hella FF50s drop it .5 or .6. Your drop does seem unusual to me - but I'm no electrical expert here...
