Emergency contact info

some of us will be coming from several miles away and we don't really know each other by anything other than on this forum.

Because of the miles we will be riding on the type of roads we will be on I was just wondering if we will have a sign in sheet with emergency contact person name and phone numbers?

No more helpless feeling than being with someone who needs emergency care and no way to contact family members.

This is a good thought. Just hard to do it on this forum and the public info that will be there.

Maybe someone knows how to do this outside the forum.

It could be done with a spreadsheet emailed to all the riders who want to sign it and emailed to a keeper of the info.?????

Not on this ride...but I keep my Emergency contact info in my wallet...others put it in their jacket.

- So what information should you carry with you?

- Name

- A list of your medical problems

- A list of your medications (including herbs and supplements)

- Name and phone number of your doctor

- Name and phone number of family or close friends

- Whether you wear contact lenses

How would an ER find it?

The best approach is to write your health information on a card you keep right behind your driver's license in your wallet.

Why near your driver's license?

When the paramedics arrive to help you, they grab a wallet or a purse so they'll know who you are. They do it consistently. When patients arrive in the emergency room, nurses routinely look for their driver's license to locate family, relatives or next of kin.

I have this in my travel wallet for all trips. I don't remember where I got the link, but it doesn't have to be fancy. Just laminate it with clear tape.

My SO, sister, mother and a friend all have my exact route, hotel phone number and expect an email or IM upon my arrival.

We could, and perhaps it will be, collect upon arrival for the rides. Didn't FjrChik get some ph numbers for us with an emergency contact?? I don't remember.

Otherwise, it would be difficult to create a sign-up sheet online. Not impossible, just difficult.

.:EDIT:. I have an account with a hosting company where I can build a simple form. The information is only accessible by myself (and anyone I create an account for). I'll PM our great organizer and see if she's ok with the set up or if I should just delete the form.

Listen up boyz and girlz ...while no harm having it other places, be sure to have one in your wallet, near or attached to your license. Trust me, they're not going through your stich pockets, your tank bag ...instead, they're going straight for your wallet.
Some trust an around the neck location above all else .....probably OK too ...and certainly better than riding gear pocket or tank bag etc.

If you watch ER (or any other medical drama) you have seen where they check for pupil dilation with those tiny flashlights. Contact lenses reflect that light a bit. It's just easier to know ahead of time rather than have to stop the assessment and remove the lenses from the patient.

Some reasons -- if you were unable to respond for a couple of days and had your contacts in the whole time your eyes would hate you. If they need to poke around in your eyes it would be nice to know in advance that there should be contacts in place. If a contact is missing it may have popped out or, it may have been knocked back around the eye. Gr8eyes, what say?

I'm gonna leave this up to you guys, as your own personal responsibility. I did not collect any emergency numbers during registration. Let the folks know that your riding with where your info can be found.

Also, feel free to print out the FJR contact list, which does have my number on it. If anyone wants my phone number, PM me. Also, you can call the hotel too, 1.800.221.3344 to reach me after tomorrow afternoon.

I use to wear contacts, anything over 24 hours and my eyes hated me. I knew a guy that left his in for 30 days (extended wear), and they literally welded to his eyes. When they were pulled off, they took a layer of skin off the eyeball. It took a long time for his eyes to heal from that one.

I had ICE in my phone. During my last get-off, I was knocked out, really messed up, and my tankbag with my cell phone was tossed into the bushes. The cleanup crew never found it. A friend from work found it in the bushes at the crash site 3-4 days later. You can't believe how relieved I was to get that bag back.
