End of the FJR?

I feel it usually exiting a spirited corner when I want to roll on the throttle as I apex. And yes, I am looking for another R1 (or something close) right now as my second steed.

If we did we'd probably also have an R1 to use on the track.

Replace the FJR? Hmmmmmm...let me check my crystal ball............

Nope....I'm seeing more of a Super Tenere replacement. I always thought a 1200cc parallel twin was just dumb. Next thing someone will think putting a 1200cc opposed twin on an adventure bike is a good idea. But an 850 triple with the same horsepower and only slightly less torque, in a package (currently) 160 pounds lighter?

Sounds like a good idea to me. But knowing "modern" motorcycle design, Yamaha would find a way to put that 160 pounds BACK into the bike, then hamstring to motor to get the HP down as well.

Okay, I'll bite....
WTF is "shaft drive lag"???
It's a made up problem magazine writers bring up when they don't have anything else to ***** about. I'll tell you what. Put your wife on the back without a backrest or top box. Run up to about 20 in first gear and then pin the throttle. After you pick your wife up off the pavement, ask her if she felt any "lag."

I`d really like to see a new FJR with a 6 speed transmission, at least 60 lbs lighter and with the new 3 cylinder engine maybe 1,000 cc. And, of course, with a shaft.

I'm going to differ on the "six-speed" transmission.

That would turn the gearbox into a close-ratio unit that required many more gear changes and tip the riding style more "sports" than I want.

The engine has torque to spare, and even spirited overtaking rarely requires more than a single down-shift ... and the bike is better for it.

I get that the engine sounds like it would prefer another gear when cruising in top, but it's just the nature of the motor. It is usually a relaxed 4000-45000 rpm so it's really barely trying, even though it sounds a bit odd. You just have to get used to it.

I don't know how you could make those changes and still call it an FJR.....sounds more like a heavy, underpowered non-Super Tenere.

Yup, that's may favorite sweet spot for cruising! 5K is even smoother and more relaxed, but that garners more attention than I prefer...
