We'll be posting one more route in a day or two. It runs West-SouthWest out of JC and extends to Devils Triangle. It's a looooonnnngggg day route at over 400 miles, includes some absolutely fabulous goat trails where pavement is not an issue (because there isn't any). The route name is....

Well, since I'm gonna go straight to Hell anyway...better sooner than later I reckon.

I definately want to ride the dragon.... The blue ridge parkway I'm going to save for the ride home, as for the others I will just flip a coin, or go majority rule, or something. But the Sargon is my priority on this trip, never been but wanting to ride it.

The Dragon is hard to pass up. It looks like it is gaining a little in popularity and no doubt will hook some last minute takers to experience its mystique. One long ass day, though.

If your main goal is the Dragon, there are ways to shorten that day.

I think "Limp Home" part is a little bit of a misnomer. Wayah Rd. is a bit of a challenge in and of itself.

Don't wanna be limpin on that road................. :p

Be careful over on The Dragon as both TN and NC have stepped up policing it! Additionally, the NC motorcycle patrol boys are around on the Cherhola Skyway.

If the voters had the remotest of ideas what riding 281 followed in a few miles by 28 would be like, it'd easily be the winner.......but I'm not going to tell them.jim
The big yellow sign warning of hairpins on gravel always kept me off 281........

now that it's paved, it's a must do for me.

....................................

I rode this 281 today...........noticed the sign still said "gravel"................as well it should, cause it is gravel........................still not paved unless you think lots of loose gravel is pavement..................

Don't know how long the gravel goes but we went a few miles then turned around.

??????????????

The Gravel only lasts 2.5 miles. Were you coming form the north (107) or the south (US64)? If you came from the north, you got the ride the better section of the road twice. If ya really want to scrape your pegs try Charley's Creek road. It goes over to 215. Seriously twitsy and good pavement.
