Myself and 5 others went on a 14 day ride to Colorado. The trip would be around 4600 miles with stops in many towns in Colorado, mostly back country or as John would say Rocky Mountain High. After going across Colorado to Ft. Collins then south to Canon City then back North to Granby, South to Del Norte, climbing to the tops of Mt. Evans, Pikes Peek and no less than 10 miles of gravel going over Guanella Pass, I had a mishap near Creed, Co. Having to take a pee, I pulled off on a gravel turn out, only to find a slimy mud mixture that took the front wheel in a different direction than the bike and I went down. Broke my fibula at the ankle and only had bruises at my knee and shoulder.

I

Got an ambulance ride to Del Norte, where I got x-rays, then caught a plane in Alamosa, Co to Denver and then Denver to PDX. Made it home by midnight that same day. Got a cast put on the next day, only to find out the pressure work to move the bones into place didn't produce the results the doctors wanted and now I will have to have an operation to pin the fibula back together.

My friends stored the FJ-09 in a storage facility, escorted me to the Hospital and after I was off to the airport, continued on to Ouray.

Now I need to figure out how to get my bike home. Since great suggestion are always posted in this forum, I would be pleased to listen to what has worked in the past and any help that may be available. Fly back to Alamosa in the winter and ride it home is out.

The guys finally returned today and I got some pics of the bike:

As you can see, I got the worst of it.

Rent a U-Haul/trailer and drive out to get it? I'm sure there are folks in both areas (WA and CO) who would be able to assist with loading/unloading... maybe even ride along with you! :)

Bike is rideable. Only has a broken turn signal, but is taped on and now only needs a new bulb. FJ faired well, but is loaded down with all my gear, bags are still full as I only brought myself, toiletry bag, phone, charger and the clothes I had on with me. Lost one boot at the ER. Went in the trash after they cut it off.

Dang, that sucks Ken. Still, slow speed crashes are better than a get off at speed. Sorry I can't help you get the bike home but wishing you a quick recovery for your leg and the bike.

Too bad to end the ride that way Ken. Hope you heal up and ride another day!

Regarding the bike...drive over, load up the trailer and drive home. Simple.

Good luck!

I'm sorry to hear about your mishap, I know something good will happen for you. The most important thing is your safe and sound. I am sure something good will happen for you in regards to getting your bike back, best of luck Ken :)

Damn Ken, I just purchased a ticket to fly one way from Rapid City to FJRays.

I could have picked up your bike and ridden it to Portland for you. Then got my bike at Rays and continued on to Cali.

Crap

Very sorry to hear about the get off Ken. I hope you are getting a good start on your road to a complete recovery. Keep your FJR community in mind, if we can help in any way. We are here for you and sending you the best of thoughts! Heal up soon!

Any luck on making arrangements, Ken? I keep asking trucker friends of mine if they are heading down that way so they could drop me off and I could ride it back for you, but I haven't had any luck yet. I figure that I could get back over the weekend.
