Escort Passport - Laser False alarms

I've got a similar issue with my Escort 9500ix, although I assume it has something to do with environmental factors since it normally alarms twice on my drive into work at nearly exactly the same two locations. The first location as I'm passing a horse pasture around the corner form my house and the second is as I'm passing an elementary school.

While the school may have police officers nearby checking for speed, I can't figure out:

1) why these horses would want to know how fast I'm going

2) what they intend to do if they detect speeders in the area

3) where they got the laser speed detectors

4) how the operate the equipment without fingers.

Curious.

So, no false alarms since the fix? Any real alarms? i.e. Is it fixed or broken with respect to laser detection? Any way to test it?
Great question. No, no fasle alarms, and yes, it still alarms properly on K, Ka and laser. My test for laser is to pass through the New Hampshire toll both at Hampton. It has some sort of UV light that is used to photograph the front license plates (for toll evasion prosecution). That thing always sets off the laser alarm on my Passport, and it still does it after having soldered all of the extra tabs.

There is also a common issue with Escort detectors where they give false laser warnings when you accelerate. Apparently they are sensitive to voltage changes. This is talked about in many places in the forums. A couple weeks ago I found a FAQ on the ESCORT site that said they had a microcode fix for this and you can send it in and get the fix. I can't find that FAQ today.
Funny thing about the false alarms is they always seemed to happen in the same environment or area. I mentioned the "Kank" earlier, the worst offending area seemed to be in the hilly area to the west of I93 where it is easier to wick it up a little. It may be a certain frequency of vibration or alternator noise that is occurring when the detector gives the false alarms. As I said, I haven't had one since soldering.

Do tell! What kind of Laser jammer are you using?
i can't speak for him, but i'm using the Blinder M47 Extreme and it's been successful over the test of time. the CPU is firmware upgradeable for when there are changes to the pulse codes, etc. they have a newer model out recently though.

Bounce, just curious why you went with the M47 vs. M27, everything I read prior to buying my setup said that for a vehicle with a relatively small footprint like a bike one laser jammer head front and back would be more than enough. I guess, however, like with most things you can never have enough power

Btw, the Bel STi Driver is designed completely invisible to the LEO detector detectors. As long as you can physically "hide" the STi from site they will never know even if sitting right next to you. I can't be bothered to dig out the various tests and research I have previously read but I believe one of the sites which did extensive testing on this was RadarRoy.

I thought Bell and Escort were the same radar detectors, just different names.

I believe I read somewhere that Escort bought Bel, but that the STi Driver is specifically designed to be totally invisible to the RD detectors whereas most other models are "visible" to varying degrees.

I'm sold on the Adaptiv TPX Laser Jammer...designed specifically for motorcycles

<with the implication I have no complaints with the K & Kx detection of the radar detector>

DESIGNED FOR RIDING -> $500

The TPX™ Laser Jammer is smarter than the average jammer. Its auto-shutoff feature allows you to concentrate on slowing your bike down instead of operating the jammer. When a signal is first detected, the system jams the signal for 7 seconds, then shuts down. This feature allows the gun to obtain a speed reading AFTER you’ve checked your speed. Of course, this feature can be adjusted with the included USB cable and software.

The system is waterproof, vibration proof, and simple to operate so you can focus on your ride.

because it's on my STi.

BTW: Patriot, the Blinder does all that and is user configurable on how long you want to jam. Constant to various different times before "sleeping" to give you time to slow down. Flip the switch the other way and it also acts as a proximity "parking" sensor. It's also upgradeable via USB and firmware updates published by the mfgr.
