Anyone have any experience with the Escort Solo S2? I've been thinking about buying one. I like the fact that it operates off of batteries. Just one less thing I have to wire up to the bike. It's claimed to last 40 hours on 2 AA's.

I had one of the original Solo models. They may have made improvements but the biggest gripe I had with mine was that sensitivity suffered as the battery wore down. I forget how long my batteries lasted but the performance of the unit degraded significantly toward the end of each set. I loved the convenience of no power cord but overall protection was lacking.

The S2 is supposed to be a huge improvement over the original Solo. Thanks fo the input though.

If you think wiring is a big hurdle then you're probably going to be fine with it and not think changing a battery every 40 hours and risking a dead battery when you're doing FJR nominal speeds is that important. I just can't imagine having a battery go dead or reducing sensitivity at all.

..But then I get into the realm that can't imagine not running a Valentine 1 with the indicator arrows.

Wiring up a detector is not really much of a hurdle. I've got a Blue Sea Systems fuse box and plenty of room for accessories. Just thinking a battery powered detector might be nice when switching between the cage and bike.

The only time I would use a radar detector is on long trips and that would be around two times a year. Local police in PA do not use RADAR or LIDAR, they use VASCAR. No radar detector will help there. Only state police in PA use radar. I have little use for a radar detector in state.

The reviews on the Solo S2 are pretty good. I would like to confirm them if possible. If it isn't as good as it sounds I would probably end up going with something hardwired like the Valentine.
