AMA Pro American Superbike motorcycles must be street certified for use in the United States and be available at the time of competition from U.S. retail dealers. There must be sufficient quantity available such that any person wanting to buy one for racing purposes can do so in a timely fashion. ... Importation must be completed by June 1st of the current season.
I guess if it's not imported then NONE of the rules apply.

(July 15) Buell Motorcycle Company today introduced the 1125RR, a race-use only motorcycle intended for competition in the AMA Pro Racing American Superbike class.
Buell will produce a limited number of 1125RR motorcycles for sale only to licensed professional road racers who will compete in the AMA Pro Racing American Superbike class. U.S. MSRP is $39,995. Orders must be placed through the Buell Race Department and delivered through an authorized Buell motorcycle dealer.
Yup. Those dipshits at DMG can't even go by their own rulebook between races! It's one thing that they can't pull one out of their pocket quickly enough to make a decision on the fly during a race weekend but damn, guys, take a peek at the son of a ***** before you do stupid **** like this. Idiots.

And for whomever was saying in a previous thread that the DMG clowns weren't tonsil-deep on Erik Buell, take this as evidence that they are.

Yep....we'll just make some rules that disqualify them Jap and Euro bikes. Then we'll see some real racing, you betcha! They're sounding more like NHRA every day. Got to keep the Harley V twin crowd happy, that's where the real fan base and money is from.

NOW we see why some major manufacturers were pulling out. They saw the handwriting on the wall.

And there's not a thing we can do about it but scream, shout, kick and complain. Nothing will change this decision until the fans move on to something else, taking there money with them.

As if I needed yet another reason to hate the DMG take over of AMA racing. But you have to admit: it takes some balls to so flagrantly and openly violate your own rule book. Wow.

 
So the 1125rr will race with the liter bikes in superbike, and the 1125r will race in daytona sportbike with the 600s?

It makes more sense all the time.

 
I have to admit that I've been in the minority that has given the new regime the benefit of the doubt, but, I gotta draw the line here. It has been stated that Buell petitioned a list of parts to be homologated for the 1125R for American Superbike and the AMA said no and told them they had to build a complete bike. Makes no sense.

Doing this mid season makes no sense. I don't see anyone dumping their current ride and shelling out the coin for a new (unproven) bike. Might add a bike or 2 to the superbike grid, though. If all they are looking to do is fill the grids better, then they should find a way to get more than a dozen bikes in SuperSport.

tonsil deep! hehehe he said tonsil deep! :rolleyes: mabey next move is have all other bikes run on flat tires! lol very real DMG ------- my money time and interest is fully behind world superbike( i don't think there is a Buell in the line up!)

I'm sure we haven't heard the last of this. DMG will have to justify their decision somehow, which will be quite interesting to listen to.

I, like you, sit in the middle of the DMG issue. The racing has been quite good, IMO. The racers are taking a positive attitude (most of them) and if they can take a positive outlook, then I certainly can. The bungling decisions by DMG aside though. Thats what is hard to stomach. But again, I give them credit for being willing to make changes when the majority of concensus leads them down a path, like getting rid of the safety car until they can incorporate the safety bike concept. That shows a willingness to change...........but then they make ridiculous changes like this one... :blink:

 
Another thread I found somewhere, but can't now, is full of folks saying what a great idea this is, that any of the bikes are just race-prepped by the teams anyway, what's wrong with starting that way? The RR is just a prepped R, what's the big deal?

The big deal is that it's not just a prepped R, it's that it can't be bought the way it is and ridden by any of us on the highways. You probably can't even buy some of the parts that are on it and make an R into an RR, like the airbox, cams, whatever.

The biggest and most ignorant example in that thread, of course, was "who thinks Mladin's bike could be bought at a dealer?"

Well, it was. Since the 2009s weren't here, yet, the team couldn't race the 2009 bike early on. They went to a dealer and bought some 2008 bikes, fiddled with them and raced them. Rather successfully.

I was chatting with a friend yesterday and I decided that the best thing Yoshimura could do is to buy one, race it for a weekend to show how easy it is to win on (and I'm almost certain Mladin could win on it), then burn it to the ground in a big ceremony.

 
Yeah I was with the few that were hoping DMG would be positive for the AMA racing. Still not quite ready to throw in the towel on them, but I am very disappointed that they can't seem to follow their own rule book.

I don't really want to see the manufacturers do their own series because you know they will never be able to agree on anything and I think it will take the sport backwards.

I sure am glad Spies is doing so well in WSBK. Gives us something to watch that is worthwhile.

NHRA is in town this weekend. Pacific Raceways is about 1/2 to 3/4 a mile to the north of us as the crow flies. Love that sound of the ground pounders! Funny that my neighbors always ***** about it. I always say who was here first, you or the track? (Tracks been here for about 50 years). They always say, yeah but we still don't like it. I always say then move.

He isn't dropping his current ride. He hasn't run superbike this year, only DSB. Plus, with all of the positive press he's given Buell, I'm quite certain he didn't pay $40k
Actually he's been running Superbike on a GSXR. Now he'll be on the Buell in both classes. You're probably right about him not paying the $40K though. He's their privateer wonder boy!

And DMG isn't? They've gotten me to stop going to the Daytona 200, and to stop watching them on Speed, or reading about them in RRW or any of the other magazines. They made AMA racing totally uninteresting as it's no longer a fair competition with meaningful rules. It's now a case of "of course he won! he's got a 20% bigger bike! (yawn)"

Heck, I watch WSB a lot more, and F1 car racing now. Even F1 is more interesting than AMA.

I think that qualifies as taking the sport backwards.
