And on the landing approach, did you notice that the big old hairy drag device behind the cockpit was deployed before he actually touched down? You wouldn't think that'd be a standard procedure in the Pilot's Operating Handbook!
That is one hell of an aircraft line, su-27/30/33/35/37/32, even navalised versions for their old A/C that I believe India now owns! Tey've been flying that routine since about99-00. The engines (al-31f) don't go into compressor stalls because they have vanes/slat under the engines that open when needed. Plus Russian engines are a hell of alot tougher than ours since they are desinged to take off from unprepared fields, another reason for slatted intakes UNDER the engine, look at the landing gear of these puppies.I can't believe he doesn't tear the wings off doing that!
And I can't believe he doesn't get into compressor stalls with the air going by the inlet @ 90 degrees to it.
Awesome machine.
We flew into norther Russia a few times and to see the way they operate over there is unbelivable. The aircraft got snowed in and they plowed around it but we still needed to shovel it out some. We asked for a shovel and got a 2X4 with piece of plywood screwed on the end. That's all they had. Everything is very crude and very poor. The hangars were freezing cold and techs were working in there. The good thing is we carried alot of Vodka and for a bottle of Vodka you could get anything you wanted. The front canard wings help with the manuvers. Its a damn shame they spend all their money on military technology and not much else.
