didn't drove all the bikes, so don't know them all, most are less heavy, but i can understand after 2 hr riding that people put another seat on it, 280kg is heavy and if you're tall, risers are needed, and you are still in the rain even with the screen on top position, slow driving isn't a pleasure with 280 kg below you and if you are large, you see your arms in the mirrors so it is not perfect for me
but it is a nice bike to ride with, just that you drive more then the limits before you know
and never, never empty your fuel tank , because he is to heavy to push
but it is a great bike

I guess everything is relative. The FJR is lighter than most of the other bikes I've owned. And while riding it doesn't feel heavy to me at all.

Yes my first. Came off a 2002 Goldwing. Goldwing did not "fit" me. The fjr is about as perfect as it gets. I've had many street bikes and the fjr with the more sporty postion is the most comfortable for me.
Ditto. I came from 3 different models of Gold Wings. GL1100, GL1200, and GL1500. The FJR was a featherweight at about 300# lighter.
I get immense joy from riding it slowly. I practice a lot in parking lots doing tight circles, slaloms, u-turns and the like. I’m a pretty small guy at 5’6” and 130lbs on a good day, so making the FJR dance around beneath my small stature looks that much more impressive lol
Did that the last time I took an MSF:ERC class. Had the FJR (bags off) doing the S-boxes they usually reserved for the BRC 250cc bikes.
wait, you have got other bikes then the fjr??
Heck ya. Love those drills. I got the cages so I could leave the bags on and not worry so much about dropping it. Having the cages gave me the confidence to really push it.
Caught the other instructor (BRC) watching over her shoulder from where she was instructing the 250cc riders. Made me respect what the FJR can do at slow speed.
Ahhh, the ole GL to FJR transition, Cadilac to Corvet in my mind. I transitioned from a GL1200 to my 07 FJR and I couldn't stop smiling. Brought the fun of riding back and I'll not return - unless the Mrs. asks to ride again (highly doubtful) - then I'd simply add to the stable, not replace.
Late for work one morning not long after getting the '03, a light turned yellow. I nailed it. I was on a cross street and the main (4 or 6 lanes) was seriously crowned. I imagine the commuters at that red light were puzzled by the flying FJR. Day and night difference between it and the 98se GL1500 I had been on.

The 03 didn't really need a crown. She'd hoist her wheel and wave goodbye in 1st or 2nd (and could keep it up for a bit in 3rd). Geared lower, lighter, shorter wheelbase and with an aggressive throttle cam than later, tamer, versions. There's reason mine was named Pandora...
The slow riding in circles stories remind me of Pandora's first tire change. I swapped them out on the road with a few hundred KMs before home and heavy weather on the way. Normally a jaunt on our local tar-and-chip surfaces scrubs tire in nicely, but... So I hit a vacant parking lot and started circling, leaning as far as I could get it to scuff up the rubber a bit in controlled circumstances. First one way for a while, then the other.
After a bit I decided to check what the effect was. I came to a stop, dropped the sidestand and hopped off. That's when I discovered the lot was on quite a slope and the stand was uphill. I didn't realize that when I was leaned over. I grabbed the bars and managed to slow the descent onto the sliders, but I don't weight enough to reverse the momentum from that side.
I imagine it looked like a dog circling a few times before laying down for a nap. ;-)

Love it! I too couldn’t resist a bit of extra throttle on my ‘05 as I crossed a railroad track which also was at the crown of a hill. We got a bit of air and nailed the landing but I don’t suppose there were any witnesses to that exhilarating moment. My rear Givi trunk never fit as tightly after that but it made me smile at the memory when I would hear it moving around a bit.
