So a 14 year old has a brain fart, gets distracted, and is killed. Sad if you ask me. I know there have been times where i have lost focus, and was lucky to not have been killed.

There's a stack of injuries attributed to cell phone usage.

That's not including the kind inflicted on others because of stupid drivers on their cell phones.

Driving home from work the other day, I see a Camry ahead of me on the four lane divided road swerving across lanes. I'm thinking "Drunk, but it's only 4:30." I get a bit closer to see a woman texting on her flip phone. I get closer to try and annoy her a bit, and she never notices. She's going fast, swerving a few feet in each direction when she types, and doesn't get it.

As she pulled up to a stoplight, I pull up alongside to the right, and as I flip up my helmet and start to yell at her, I realize that there's a child seat in the back with an infant aboard. I'm absolutely livid at this point and yell at her through closed window "GET OFF YOUR ____ING PHONE!!!!", giving her the hang up hand signal. "YOU'RE GOING TO KILL SOMEONE!" In the day-glo, I might look slightly like a cop, so it obviously startles her pretty well. Hoping that shook her up a bit.

I see this all the time, and we're going to hear more and more about this, like that train accident in So Cal.

Another pet peave: people who drive with small children and no car seats. Just saw one of those an hour ago. Certainly wish I'd seen a cop I could flag down about that.

"A 14-year-old Davenport boy died today from injuries he sustained after walking into the path of a car while texting on his cell phone"

This is how people WALK around here, you can imagine how they drive...
Sheesh. A rather harsh way to word the title when we're just talking about a kid. :glare:
Maybe, but I'm getting rather tired of having to dodge these people. They grow up into the idiots that pull out into traffic without looking, and then get pissed at YOU when you go around them. I'd druther him be dead than me. And yeah, I'd rather him not be dead, but seriously injured and in the hospital for 3 months. Maybe then the lesson would stick.

EDIT: and I just noticed he's got 2 "friends" with him, and neither of them said anything or tried to stop him? Some friends...

To me the sad part is some 42 year old man is now going to be traumatized because some kid walked in front of him and died. This poor guy now is probably going to be traumatized for life from this. Not to mention the financial aspect of this brain dead action. He now has to get his car either repaired or replaced. Is the family of the kid gonna pay for this? My guess is hell no. Poor ******'s family is probably going to sue this poor guy because they took out their kid.

I normally abstain from jumping into posts like this, but I can't help myself.

Okay. A young man - a boy - did something stupid, and paid for it with his life. It's a tragedy for ALL involved. The youngster, the poor guy that hit him, and BOTH families. Let's not stoop to name calling and holier than thou judgement. Please. All you guys are better than that. The kid is dead. You can leave him alone now.

And I can see people are starting to spend less time riding and finding more stuff on the Internet to try and entertain us all with. It happens so this is my annual reminder that people need to remember this forum is about FJRs.

I read that somewhere....oh yeah in the first sentence of the Forum Guidelines.

This forum is to discuss the Yamaha FJR1300 and the issues surrounding the FJR1300 community.
Besides the obviously divisive subjects of religion and politics that became such an issue we had to revise and enforce a special policy....this thread seems to have turned that way...so it's being closed. Please don't make us have to revise policy again and include another no-no.

Everybody should be eating a healthy diet of mostly FJR content with the occasional snack of Jokes or treat of Completely Off-Topic.

Doctor Ignacio
