I have seen quite a few threads on bringing in bikes to have them fixed at the dealer, but if mine ever goes ticker on me, I'm going to be faced with doing it myself. I bought the bike used, it didn't have the extended warranty, and I couldn't buy one.
So I've been mentally preparing myself to do the job should it ever come up (I think there may be a little ticking now but I'm just going to keep riding until it gets really bad).
The plan is to pull the heads, buy a set of '06 valve guides, new valves, and head bolts, and find a machine shop to put them in.
Has anyone done this job themselves? I'm a mechanic of moderate skill, having done most everything on a bike except for engine internals kind of stuff. I wanted to start this thread to be a repository of information for anyone else who was faced with doing it themselves.
I tried finding exhaust valve guides on the Ron Ayers microfiche, but for some reason it only had the intake valve guides listed. Any ideas why?
Parts list:
'06 exhaust valve guides when they become available
new head bolts
What else?
