bought a 03 fjr with 3000 miles on it. Perfect. Does anyone know if I can get a warranty on this bike???? It did not have one at the time of purchase. Could I get one outside of going to yamaha?????? Thanks

Sadly, I think the Yamaha Y.E.S. program is past your (or the original owner's) one year window of opportunity. From what I understand, the third-party extended warranty programs are criminal activities in the guise of lawful business. Someone correct if I'm wrong.

I believe you can bring it to a Yamaha dealer for an inspection/servicing after which they will (may?) sell you a YES warranty if the bike is in good/great condition.

I found this out by asking a dealer about YES on a 2005 FJR ABS that I'm considering buying, that is 9 days out of warranty...

At over $700 that most dealerships ask for the Y.E.S. contract, I'd have to think twice. For the $389 from D&H, I jumped on it.

$389 buys a lot of mental security, even if you never use it.

For what it's worth, I think most extended warranties are not worth it if you, as the owner, take reasonably good care of your vehicle or you tend to keep your vehicles 3 years or less. Basically you are betting the vehicle will fail, the dealer is betting it won't. So why would you buy a vehicle that you are betting will fail? Add to that, that it can be very difficult to get some dealers to honor the extended warranty in every case "I'm sorry, but our interpretation of your contract shows that paticular problem isn't covered by your extended warranty".

I know, you are thinking "this is insurance in case there is a problem". There is some merit to that argument, but I would bet if you added up all the extended warranties you paid for versus what you saved, the warranty companies are probably ahead.

Now having said all of that, I am going to call D&H cycles and get the Y.E.S. extended warranty today. Why, you may ask? Because this is a very inexpensive warranty at $389.00. The dealers have a great track record of honoring the extended warranty and I plan on keeping this bike at least another 5 years. In the case of the FJR I think the Y.E.S. is a reasonable offer especially with the ticking issue out there. Just my thought process, I could be totally wacked. :eh:

So far my only problem was the steering stem nut was LOOSE...(I kept hearing this "clunk",
1. I too have an '05abs and have noticed a "clunk" when moving over our nice road repair in Michigan. I checked the front end for any play on the center stand by having my two neighors push the rear end down and I reefed on the front forks and wheel only to find no play. Can it still be loose without any noticable play?

2. Does YES add anything to the origional warrenty or is it OK to add anytime within the first year?

Thanks,

mo
