What are my options for heated vest/gloves/etc?

Froze my arse off the other night riding through Utah and I had four jackets on, a couple pair of gloves, and several pairs of socks.

Thank you!

Widders have been popular because of their efficiency and our watt-challenged bikes. Gerbings popular, but more juice. As of late a fair number of Widder folks have converted and swear by Warm-n-safe. Gotta go ride a PGR thing so you'll have to Google yourself.

+1 on the Widder stuff. Not only is it well made and uses Thinsulate to hold in the heat well, they are also a big supporter of the community.

I just finished a complete wiring harness build and install for switched power under the seats. Will gladly share the info if you are interested in powering that heated gear effectively.

It's going to be at least 10 months before I need heated gear, so you could help me out by sharing your gear research.

Trade???

Jeff

I have the Gerbing jacket liner and gloves. Been real happy with both. I put a harness on my tractor so I can be warm while plowing the snow. :)

Aerostich makes an inflatable vest Clicky

Things I like about it:

Really cool as it keeps the vest right next to you, and you get a layer of air as insulation.

Will still fit as I grow and shrink

Also it feels about twice a effective when inflated.

Things I don't like:

It takes up a lot of space when packed up.

So much that if I ever fit in my Widder vest again, I will carry that full time, (like all summer here in MN)

and put the Aerostich on only when I need it.

I finally bought a Gerbing jacket and gloves last year.

Should have bought them many years ago. You guys

that are on the fence about heated gear, just bite the

bullet, and get some. You know you will sooner or

later. Sooner is better.

Warm and safe is the new standard. Complete windbreaker like weight and fit. More heat to the front arms and chest, less heat to the back area. They also make a 65 watt jacket liner rather than the 100 watt. The gloves are less bulky even more so than my winter gloves. Run a dual heat troller and you can ride with both or one or the other. Way better system than the Widder with arm chaps. Of course longevity wise is still to be proven like the reliability of the Widder.

Uhh, I never saw this fabled "longevity" with the Widders. I burned through 2 vests in 2 years, and finally had enough. A pal told me about Warm n Safe and man o man I've never looked back.

Pat Widder is a great guy, but his products leave something to be desired.

Don't worry about being watt challenged. I double dare anybody to wear this thing at full blast for even a minute. Ha cha chaaaa.

Get your electric gear now. Don't wait. I've ridden all my life and only this year got heated grips and a Gerbings jacket. It is an amazing difference. Why didn't I do it sooner????? It's like reading by candlelight all your life and then buying an electric lightbulb. Doh!

I use a widders vest works great, keeps the core temps up, and if I'm a good boy maybe I'll get arms and legs for next Xmas. Only problem I've ever had with it happened on the way to work this morning, it didn't warm up, I haven't used it for about six weeks and it worked fine last time it was used. I guess in order for the vest to work you need to plug in both ends of the power cord. :dribble:

+1 for HEAT!! I'd imagine riding in 16 degrees at 70mph for hours is not fun :cold: ... but w/heat I was just fine.

+1 for Gerbing

I'm fixin' to sell a pair of Gerbing G3 gloves size Large (new in package) if you're interested.

My inability to complete a heated grip installation may have been a blessing. Looks like heated gloves are coming along nicely and in my mind, make better sense. Any thoughts, especially on the WarmNSafe gloves?

Yes, install the heated grips, and get the gloves.

The grips are always there, you may not always

have the gloves with you. A little warmth is always

nice.

I'll point you over to a thread I started on STN: The Heated Gear Rocks! thread

It will give you an idea of what their userbase uses. I think whatever brands you choose, you will wonder why you didn't do it sooner.

Jeff, I love my Gerbing gloves but they are a little bulky. I won't be putting heated grips on my bike.

What are the advantages/disadvantage of the two types of connectors ...coax vs. SAE?

thanks
