They sit on the floor because the dealer orders them in employees names at the beginning of the year. The downfall is that the warranty is partially used up by the time you buy the bike. They usually come with 12 months, but if it has been sitting on the floor for 4 months, you get 8!

:stop:

That is completely wrong UNLESS the bike has been registered. If it has, then it is not "new" anymore. It is a "used" bike.

With the PDP Yamaha started the warranty at the delivery date (because with the PDP it was already sold as far as Yamaha knew).

I can't swear to 06's but this was the case with 03'-05'.

Rogue's correct !!

There's been cases on the boadrs / lists of bikes sitting at obsure dealers that were sold months after delivery. The warranty started at delivery as it was pre-sold under PDP.

I hope everything is copacetic. (Wow, man, how 60's is THAT?) I'll cross my fingers for you. If all goes well you can have a "boss" and "bitchin'" ride home.

I can't believe all of that just fell out of my brain. Oh, wait a sec.....yes I can!

GROUP HUG...now let's all sing, "Don't Bogart that joint, my friend....."
I knew the day was going to end well...as we joined the 880 in Fremont early Saturday morning on our way to Santa Barbara a 1300A with 2 riders and a sponge bob dangling from the top box passed us and I was able to point out to my wife many of the FJR's features.

Made it down to Santa Barbara in good time and everything was copasetic :)

It was a used (July 06) AE with 833 miles on the clock (previous owner was a local author who buys 3 new bikes a year from this dealer and just couldn't get on with the clutch), a top box, a color coded magnetic tank scratch protector and even a hidden intercom system under the seat (more about this on a new post soon), and only a couple of minor blemishes. They let me take it out for a test ride, actually got on very well with the electric clutch and not being able to plant both feet flat on the floor at the lights is not a big deal...I liked it and I bought it. Pretty happy with the deal too, $3,300 less than list for a new one and $2,000 less than the best price I'd been able to negotiate from the 7 dealers that had a new 06 in stock in a 400 mile radius from Fremont, Ca. Even though I hadn't planed on getting a top box for my bike I'm actually glad that this one came with one...my laptop doesn't fit in the side panniers and with the top box I no longer have to wear a backpack like I do on my R1200c.

All in all, I'm a very happy chap, thanks so much to the people who host this forum and all of the advice I've seen on it over the last past months leading up to this purchase and the recent advice that I've received since I became a member a week or so back.

Congrats on you new FJR - I just sent you a PM as I live in Fremont as well.
Oh man....with "fjrvtx1300s", that makes 3 in Fremont.

Congratulations on making the deal. Now you'll both have to scroll over the the "Ride Planning" thread and join us for the Napa Spring ride in Feb.

Uhm...Highlander will be the "Big Dog" on this one. :yahoo:

I know you can. Seen the Autocom...

After seeing pictures if your bike I can't wait to get my top case. It arrives tomorrow!!!

Who really knows...but while researching the purchase of my 06AE I asked every one of the 9 dealers that had an 06AE in stock if it came with 12 months warranty or less because it was a PDP order and the warranty had already started (great advice from this forum…thx!)

Approx 2/3rds told me their bike had 12 months starting the day I picked it up, the other 1/3rd told me it had X number of months left on it…the who knows part is were they all telling the truth and once in their shop doing the paperwork would it have been a different story?

My advice (I know…a little too new to the forum to be giving advice, but here it is for what it’s worth anyway) would be to make the dealer adjust the price accordingly when you really know the extent of the warranty.

Personally with the deal I was able to get on my 6 month old 800 mile “used” bike I have no problem sending D&H $400 six months earlier than I would have otherwise…
