2006 will NOT fit 2003.

2003-2005 are pretty much the same other than the front turn signals. 2006-2009 are interchangeable.

Are you saying the 2006-9 will fit the 03?
NO!

The 2006-2009 FJRs are known as Gen II. They are interchangeable within those years. 2003-2005 North American FJRs are known as Gen I. Within Gen I, 2004 and 2005 are almost identical bikes except for color. 2003 is similar to the 2004 and 2005, but has some differences:

- Turn signals went from stalk to flush mounted

- Front brake rotor size was increased

- Left side 'glove box' was added

- Windscreen size was slightly altered

- ABS brakes became an option

And probably a few more things I am forgetting.

Though they look similiar, there were major changes from Gen I to Gen II FJRs. Not a lot of parts will interchange on those years.

If you want to get all graphic and explicit, click this link to open Ignacio's comparison matrix PDF. The PDF details and compares the changes from model year to model year.

I 'think' he is asking if you could put the fairing, all of it from a Gen II onto a Gen I? I know the Gen II has a different rear subframe, but don thtink they changed the main/front frame/steering head or engine casings in a significant way. I imagine with little or no modification s to the mounting brackets that you could mount the whole fairing from an 06+ to an 03-05 Frame? Thats how I read his question at least, but maybe not...... Definately NOT changeable parts between body work of the generations, but I wonder if the whole fairing is?

I don't think it will work... The frames and tupperware are slightly different between Gen-1 and Gen-2..

If you look at slider kits for FJRs, you'll see that the Gen-1's need a completely different slider assembly, vs the Gen-2 sliders...

And for the record...I never imagined having to explicitly add some column to describe fairing interchangeability on the matrix. I'm going to risk it, let the reader figure this one point out from the other subtle clues, and not change anything. ;)

They are interchangeable within those years. - They are also much faster, cooler and just a heck of lot better than Gen 1 (especially the 2007) !!. 2003-2005 North American FJRs are known as Gen I. Soooter,

You forgot a line!! However don't you worry I was nice enough to fixed it.

Did some numbers today cuz I was thinking how kewl it would be to have a Black AE decked out in a Stealth 117 theme. I thought it might be about the same as a very nice paint job but factory smooth. Once I got all the front panels and hit over $3200 and STILL had to get the gas tank and rear panels, well I quit. Our parts guy told me, just list the silver AE panels on E-Bay and cover my cost. Still a no-deal, I think he was just wanting the sale. I'm sticking with my Silver color (it always looks clean) and maybe I'll do a F-104 Thunderchief scheme to it.

It's wasteful buying new fairings instead of just repainting the ones you have. If you went that route, you'd have to buy:

Windshield bracket ($62)

Left mirror ($114)

Right mirror ($114)

Front cowl ($166)

Left upper cowl ($136)

Right upper cowl ($135)

Glove box [the lid is painted] ($211)

Lower left fairing ($379)

Lower right fairing ($379)

Right vent ($60)

Left vent ($60)

Lower cover [below the radiator; painted too] ($112)

Fuel tank ($613)

Left side cover [below seat] ($54)

Right side cover [below seat] ($54)

Front fender ($88)

Rear side covers: $98 x2

Rear center cover: $50

Little pop-in things if you're not using the side bags: $12 x6

(as for the saddlebags themselves, don't know how much they cost)

The total price for unnecessarily buying a complete fairing replacement is $3055, not counting the side bags. These prices were from knmotorcycles.com which I believe includes a 20% discount off MSRP, but I believe you can get slightly better prices from a couple of others.

But the original question still intrigues. If a Gen I owner say, hit a deer or giant Jackalope, the bike might could be rebult to Gen II up front to take advantage of the heat management features and clean crash bar installation, while still retaining the ultimate Cerulean color....:rolleyes

Maybe even get a curved radiator?

That was F-105 Thunderchief. My uncle flew one over 'Nam in the mid 60s.

The F-104 Starfighter was a rocket with two little wings on it. The F-105 was a BIG fighter that was turned into a fighter-bomber.

True true, I stand at attention corrected. :D
