Use of Terms Iron Butt, Iron Butt Ride, Iron Butt Rally and Others

The Iron Butt Association is the most internationally recognized authority on certifying rides accomplished. There are 20,000+ Iron Butt Association Certified Finishers. Anybody can try by accomplishing a 1,000 miles in 24 hours. Certified finishers become members of the IBA and often ride more extreme rides as they gain experience.

The Iron Butt Rally is an organized competitive event held every odd year with many applying, but only about 100 being accepted each rally. To date a little over 300 people have successfully completed the IBR.

Rallies

Rallies are organized competitive events similar to scavenger hunts. Thye have a variety of rules and entrance requirements. Sever include the Utah 1088, SPANK, and Cal24. The best calendar and summary for rallies is rallymasters.org.

For stories about rallies consider reading: GunMD's 2005 SPANK, Ignacio's 2005 Utah 1088 Experience.

I know these aren't permanent URL's, but for anyone heading out this summer (2007), you might find some interesting info and some helpful tips. I found the 33 secrets (eye drops do actually help fight eye fatigue!), the Friedman piece, and the touring essentials to be helpful.

Best,
