Since I finally came to the conclusion that all Yamaha dealers on Long Island are a bunch of putzes, the FJR is in a shop in Rhode Island being fixed (I hope) so I took this time to do a little bolt on farkling on my KLR. It was pretty much stock when I bought it and looked like this:

Now it looks like this:

I added the Nerf Bars, anti vibration mirrors and mounts, rear master cylinder guard, aluminum skid plate, back off module and LED taillight, a Pelican 1550 box, gel grips, and a beefier shift lever. I still have intentions of making a dash for it, adding some Moose handguards, and adding a couple of powerlets for heated gear and GPS. I have a set of these Ortlieb waterproof sidebags, now all I have to do is figure out what type of rack to use for them and figure out where to take them and the bike to....that should probably be the easy part.

This thing is just more fun than a person should have.

I can hear my plain lil blu whimpering softly. She is sooo jealous.

I got the part of where to take yer bike covered, ride on down and we'll go play! The paved roads here ain't got squat on the dual sport adventure touring.

Say, who builds those nerf bars anywho? Me likey.

I know you have excellent dual sport roads down there Jim, I got a chance to ride a couple of them at EOM :dribble: .

The Nerf Bars are from HAPPY TRAILS. They have some other tasty stuff for the KLR also so you may not want to open the link.

Hey Axeman,

I had me one of them KLR's too. It was an '05 wit the (faster) red bodywork, same as your'n. Problem was, I rode it a coupl'a times and I had to go get some dental work and my willy wouldn't work so well no mo'. All my fillin's shook lose and the peter had no get up and go neither.

Sold that puppy (for more than I paid, of course) and got me one of deese here:

For a thumper, this here is smoooooth. I like to cruze it at a nice 50-55 mph and the thang corners like it's on rails. It's everything I wanted outta the KLR and more. Course, I still couldn't ride it on no single track. Wait, if I bought some knobby tires, I bet I could just fine.

Anyway, I'll prolly be broke down on the side of the road looking for a BMW or Aprilla dealer when you tool on by. Har... EnJoy your ride, mang! ;)

I sure wish that I could come close to flatfooting one of these things. I'd love to have one. I know, I know... you only need to put your feet down when you're not moving.

Yup, I'd definitely need those. It seems to me that learning to ride dual sport style would require at least a good toe hold on the ground on each side.

I watched my friend Jeff get up on his motard. The top of the seat is even w/ his torso... & he rides it. I wouldn't prefer to learn like that, though.

The Nerf Bars are from HAPPY TRAILS
OK, knew about happy trails, but somehow the ones on your bike look more substantial than what's on the website. I leaning toward SWMotech b/c they offer a centerstand and I just want to be sure it is all compatible.

Axeman, I also have a KLR which I zooted-up. Changed the color to silver. You can view it on E-Bay, as it's for sale. Probably got $1500 worth of junk added to it. If you have time, look it up. Seller is philbragg.
