A 03 FJR went 155.9 mph at Bonneville this year. not bad considering the altitude and lack of traction.

he did two passes from the same direction. the first was 153 mph and then we added more air to the tires just to see if it helped and added some race gas at 8 bucks a gallon and run two was the 155.9. you only need to go both ways if you are setting a record. this was just fun in the run what you brung class. i could't run mine because i didn't have the right gear. they say you lose about 6-10% because of the salt and the altitude so that makes the FJR damn fast. just for info the wind was about 3mph cross track.

The wind was what I was wondering about. Frank did 161 with 8mph wind on the ***, 42lbs in the tires, no bags, stock shield, no mirrors, on tar at 850ft alt. The high test may have actually slowed ya some. ;)

Hope it was UNLEADED race gas, O2 sensors don't take kindly to the some of that stuff.

For whatever reason the first time I read the statement about not having the right gear, my mind immediately went the chain and sprockets route . . . .

I think your right, he is talking about jacket, helmet, gloves, boots, or preferably full leathers for this kind of work.

Back on gearing, I've heard rumors that some of the other Yamaha shaftie final drive gears will fit the FJR, not that I want to, but just curious if anyone has ever made a gear swap?

you are right on the gear. they prefer full leather or twopiece that zips together and the last resort is good textile. all i had was draggin jeans and a mesh jacket. on the subject of gearing there is rumors that vmax gearing works in the fjr. the new bmw k1200 was a good 20mph faster than the fjr and the guy riding it said he was on the rev limiter hard and he said it had more in it if they could kill the limiter or regear it.

Gryphon, IIRC 2 years ago there was talk of the V-Max shaft drive and gears being interchangeable. That may be wrong but that is lurking in the dark recesses of my memory. Of course I do have alzhiemers.

Go to www.RMSportMax.com

They can put VMax gears in. They are 10:33 (VMax) instead of 9:33 (FJR).

I think it would help smooth things out on the freeway but, obviously,at the expense of acceleration. I have seriously considered it but have not yet done it as I use the FJR for "sport" as well as touring.

I may change my mind when my new Ducati SportClassic Smart 1000LE arrives nest month.

The lower gear are the Venture gears. Vmax is same as the FJR. Venture is 3.33:1 and the FJR/VMax are 3.66:1.

:D

Wouldn't those be higher gears then? Since I have never seen my own top speed, why strive for more at the expense of accelleration? I use my accelleration on almost every sortie, so that's where my priorities lie, YMMV. However, if the Venture gears are actually lower, that could be enticing. :agent:
