Faulty design of kickstand and fix

I am a new fjr owner just bought a 2009 brand new leftover ae model,i just want to warn people that the bike can roll foward and unlock the kickstand i know this because my bike fell over with less than 100 miles and did some minor damage.the next day i looked at the problem and took some metal off the stop with a die grinder,it sits about 2 inches foward and is impossable to roll foward now.wish i new this last week.

yeah man. If you're ever in doubt, leave it in gear, and let it roll with the hill. It'll come to a stop (because of being left in gear) and THEN put the kickstand down and lean it. I almost had it happen with my current bike cause I didn't let the gear stop it. But you can park facing down hill if you leave it in gear and let it roll till it stops BEFORE putting the kickstand down.

For what it's worth, I ALWAYS park the bike in gear, and ALWAYS use the kickstand engine cutoff, just to make SURE it's in gear when I park.

9. The side stand does not come down (extend) as much as some think it should.

Some have had the bike fall over because of inattention. Be cautious when using it and dismounting. Ensure it is fully extended.

Many have filed down the side stand stop so it will extend more.

The bike will not start with the side stand down if the bike is in gear. (works in neutral).

Park it in gear when on the sidestand so the bike will not roll off the stand. Bike rule #1

I just do not understand why people insist on parking a bike nose down on inclines. If a space is sloped at all you should park with the front wheel higher than the rear, whether on the side stand or the center stand. Will never fold up on you that way. Also makes it a lot easier to back out of (or into) a space when it's down hill.

Yeah, but what if you're parking it so the sun won't be shining directly on the instruments? Don't want a heat generated bubble developing under your tach needle -- that would never do.

Since my gauge faces have bubbled a bit over the years I do park in an orientation to keep the direct rays off the gauges (don't want the bubbles to get any larger). But parking in 1st gear is always a requirement. Since I always start the engine in 1st gear (save those gear dogs) neutral is an alien concept to me (except at home in the garage).
