To date i have added heli bar risers, tank tredz https://geckostrips.com/shop#ecwid:category=426073&mode=category&offset=0&sort=normal to help keep my

wieght off the bars and they do help me anyway. Also have tried 3 or 4 different grips including gel grips and grip puppies which both help a little grip puppies might do the most in the grips i have tried but i am not a fan mainly because when they get wet. most reciently where the vibranators which did change the vibration but for me didn't help.

I don't grip the bars hard as a rule in fact i normally don't even close my hands all the way if i do it is worse so i try to just rest my hands on the grips enough to keep the throttle at speed. I agree that it is worse on my right hand because of the throttle and for that reason i added a vista cruise which i use most of the time.

I love the way the bike rides and handles the curves however if i were buying a bike today it would not be a FJR.

Well, I don't know about some people feeling the vibes in a bike different than others. Maybe. I do know that I've had two FJR's. An 04 and my current 08 and the 08 has more high pitch vibes coming through the seat, pegs, and to a minor extent the grips. My 04 was much smoother. I think it is just that for some reason some bikes (FJR'S) are different in that respect. I've tried some home remedies and fixes, but none have worked so far.

GP
Interesting...My experience is completely opposite. My '08 is much smoother than my '04 was.

I don't think anyone has mentioned it yet, but check the balance of your front wheel. My from just recently threw somw weight, and the vibes started immediately. They were bad enough that I didn't want to ride the bike until the tire was balanced.

I'm glad I knew what it was immediately. Your '09 shouldn't have that much vibration. Something else is wrong. Get it checked out, and follow the recommendations already listed.

Adding an MCcruise control or equivalent will be much less expensive then taking the depreciation hit on your FJR. An electronic cruise control makes ALL the difference on a long day.

I agree, I have the MC cruise and I also get a numb right wrist at times on the FJR. The cruise control makes all the difference in the world.

Easy fix install a cruise control!!! Then you dont even have to touch the bars!!! NICE!!!

I had the same problem with my 08..my hands would get extrememely numb...Sold it and bought a Hayabusa. smooth as silk.

Funny thing about my 08 is there is minimal vibes throught the bars. Most are through the pegs and the seat and it's definately the engine and not the wheels being out of balance. I'd know the difference.

I have had numb hands on occasion through out the six years of riding my FJR. I have settled on gel grips and vibranators. But I have also thrown weights, had dynobeads stick together, cupped front tires and even the road cause irritating vibes. Setting the front suspension as describe in this forum also helps. Age may have some issues as some of my friends and me have noticed an increase is our hands getting numb. I think I've gotten it down to uncontrollable issues such as the road as it doesn't happen with any regularity.

nice riding gear, my buddy used the same gear setup on his g-wing untill he went down due to a deisel spill. After I picked him up at the hospital (with multible gashes, cuts, & road rash ) he's all geared up now. As for vibes, my 07 has that vibe pitch at 4k , so I try to stay away from it as much as possible. On the hwy I loosen up and no vibes, but on the twisties, throwing this fat pig around does make my hand numb. (Harder to keep hand loose than)

I know what you are talking about, I have had that problem for years. Try sliding your right palm back to where it is off the grip and you are holding on with your fingers. Also keep a soft grip on the bar. I found that getting the vibration and pressure off the nerve that runs through the palm will bring the feeling back into the right hand.

jride, I'd say you're on the right track with a vista cruise. Just having the ability to relieve your right hand is the cat's meow but I would go one step further and that's to do what so many Gen1 and Gen2 owners have done and that's to unload the spring tension. There's apparently 4 or 5 springs at work and unwinding the main one (very easy steps, no throttle body removal) does wonders to this bike.

Don't give up on the FJR.

You have the VistaCruise, now take your hand off the grip altogether. If it isn't on the grip it will not get numb. Place it on the fuel tank. Take both hands off, steer with your body. That is why my fuel tank has StompGrip on both sides, it provides me with a great anchor point for controlling the bike. The only reason to hold on is to initiate the direction you want to go.

Granted, electronic cruise control works best for this, however the VistaCruise when properly set up works great.

On both my AE bikes my right hand would go numb within 15 minutes. Not anymore with the MotorCycle Cruise.

Hope it helps.

Sorry, been going riding for a good while. Maybe you are gripping your motorcycle too tight. Relax your grip if you have already checked and

eliminated all the other possibilities.

Well, I had an 04 and got rid of it because of right hand numbing among other complaints. Then I got a vstrom, loved the light flickable roomy bike but hated the vibes....however, those vibes never numbed my hand? I have a Tiger 1050 now that feels smooth as silk but numbs my hand big time. I think it's the nature of the oscillation frequency. Some you hear and don't feel, some you feel and don't hear, some you hear and feel. This is a depressing post as I was considering a gen 2 since many issues have been addressed. But sounds like there is still the vibe problem. Getting older makes us all "sensitive"........

Not sure about the FJR and how to fix its vibes but on my old Concours when all else failed to remove the vibes we had to readjust the vibration dampener on the engine. Also a valve adjustment and in that case a carb sync. On my R1200RT every 6000 miles it needs a Valve adjustment and a throttle body sync to keep the vibes at bay. Maybe a tb sync using a gas analyzer would work. Again I am not real familiar with the bike. Ride a new or different bike and see if that bike is just as bad. If so then maybe nothing will work. If the new bike vibrates less then maybe yours can be adjusted out of it. I also remember some Concours owners syncing the carbs at a higher rpm to help it be smoother at normal cruising speed. It ran a little bit rougher at idle but on the highway it wouldn't vibrate.

Hmmmmmm...... Do you think this will stop the vibes I'm getting through the footpegs and the seat? Just wondering.

GP <_<

Try these, the theory behind them is solid. I have a set I haven't tried yet.

https://www.vibranator.com/street_bikes_s/23.htm

The set for the FJR comes with a simple tool to remove the stock bar end attachment plug.
Thats right , just 109.95 & if you call in the next 10 min, we will throw in another set for free (just pay our $200.00 shipping & handling fee) & were not done :) to the first 100 callers we will even throw in the cheap chinese allen wrench to tighten them up.

Sorry couldn`t resist :p

I have the heavy salamander bar end weights on my 07 & they sure did help (if you think your grips vibrate , grab the bar end weigth & see how much more it vibrates) you would be amazed. Yes i retouqued the engine mounts , valves checked & TB-synced & i still feel vibes. On my 05 Concours, not only would my hands go numb, but my right hand would feel like it was burning. (thats after doing the whole shabang on that too) :angry2:

When I first got my '06, she was smooth. After adding sliders, she vibrated like the devil in the pegs, seat and handle bars. It was really not fun to ride any more. After listening to these folks,I loosened both bolts, torqued the left then the right and she was smooth again. It was an amazing difference.

I may have that sequence backwards so better check around here before doing this if you think this might be the problem.
