Never heard of such a thing. That being said I have never been to Yellowstone either. Who stopped you?

Park rangers?

DHS?

Black SUV's with no insignia's?

Yes it will but I believe it transfers in as an out of state ticket and will only cost you one point. Hope you have it to spare!

Any speeding ticket on federal property (or parking ticket for that matter) is handled in federal court. Parking in a handicapped spot (with a displayed plackard) can cost $100 to $250 normally. Such tickets in federal property often run around double that. Speeding tickets are equally costly on federal property.

If contesting it (had to twice for different parking citations that weren't justified), it requires a visit to the Federal District Court; quite an elevation over your standard traffic court. Watching the parade of defendants go before the Judge for poaching ($40,000.00), and other charges that ended up with fines, is pretty eye opening WRT those differences.

Yes it gets reported to states. Yes it can impact your insurance. Points are the least of your concerns if you don't win you defense. Often the money is on a whole 'nother plateau.

Federal speeding tickets get reported just as any out of state ticket would, even if you got ticketed in a CA park. It should be a one point dinger for you, plus it gets reported to your insurance company. Since it's a federal ticket you can't go to traffic school and there is no way to avoid getting a point on your license. I believe the judge sets the fine after considering the situation and it is typically significantly more punitive than a local/state ticket.

Not knowing (and not wanting to know

the points condition of your license it may be time to talk with a lawyer, cause here comes da judge.

Hopefully I'm wrong...

The ticket is $100 and it says on the back that i "may" be able to do a Driver Education course.....I will call on Monday and find out.

In my experience they do not go on your driving record - if you pay it. I have gotten two, and neither ever showed up on my record and I have been told as much by one of the park police that nailed me. Of course now I live in a state that does not record out of state tickets :) .

My Google Fu is strong today.

Scroll down to "Code of Federal Regulations Violations"

As you can see, the only thing CA will apply points for federal tickets is "DUI". Hopefully my interpretation of that is correct and you're good to go.

Most excellent Grasshopper.

As long as it's a problem that money can make disappear, our friend Fairlaner is in deep clover. FWIW, Yellowstone has nice roads with obscenely slow speed limits.

First...How the Hell did you only get a $100 Federal ticket?? Those badboys are usually in the range of $300 to $500...

I don't know for sure that the feds will add it to your driving record, but as searched above, probably not. Moving violations, other than DUI are usually petty misdemeanors, and probably wont' go from the Federal Level to the State Level. Also...No one reports anything to your insurance. If your insurance finds out, it's because they pulled your driving record and they happened to see it. Most of the time, it depends on your relationship with your insurance company. I have never had one increase my insurance...Been lucky so far.

Now...There's no reason a federal judge can't send you to driving school, and most of the federal judges I know are reasonable guys...Just like a normal Metro court or Magistrate court judge, just in a bigger court room.

What ever you do, don't ignore the citation. That WILL get reported to your state, and they'll suspend your driver's license for Failure to Pay Fines. That will piss off the judge and you will end up making a house payment to a Federal Magistrate.

Those tickets suck...I haven't had one, but with all the federal land around here, I know lots that have, and I have friends in the Federal Court system.

Long ago, when I worked for the Navy, I took the mandatory on-station MFS class to ride inside the gate. They put the fear of God in everyone not to speed as a ticket on station was a federal ticket and it would follow you everywhere. Never got one, so I can't confirm.

I do know that Tennessee does NOT share tickets with other states. That I do have direct experience with.
