Ok,

So now that I'm picking up my FJR on Saturday, i have a few questions...

When I pick it up what should I look for?

From searches and reading the forums, I already know to ask the following:

1) Were the clutch plates soaked

2) Were the bag latch screws loctited

Aside from the obvious..(the tank isn't missing, or badly scratched etc) what else should I look for...

Also, silly question, but how badly does the FJR buzz when slabbing etc? My beloved Concours had a BAD buzz coming through the handlebars between 4k and 5k rpm, It could put your hands to sleep of you aren't careful...

Does the FJR do anything like that?

Forget about the clutch plates. That's a factory assembly issue and your dealer won't know anything about it. More than likely it will be fine. If there is an issue, deal with it then.

As for your buzz question, you asked that already in a seperate thread. So why again?

Take a deep breath and exhale slowly. Saturday is a long ways away, and no need to stress away 10 years of your life until then.

Trust me, you'll love the FJR.

Geezzz..... I had to wait 5 1/2 months for mine - and I got it early !!

Christmas morning will get here when it gets here. Calm Down !!!! :lol:

I had a "shudder" in my '05 when I got it that worked itself out as time passed (never lost it completely) and I became accustomed to it. Attributed it to plates not being prepared properly (soaked), but never felt it worth fiddling with and it didn't hurt anything. I haven't heard it happening much with later years models.

Get bar end weights to lessen any buzz if it bothers you. However, as someone above stated-"real" men don't mind it. In fact the more fillings your teeth lose from the shaking, the higher your status with those of us who measure ourselves by tougher standards than the wimpy crowd that gripe about heat, vibration, etc. If you are able to pass muster with the vibration test, you are eligible to join us depending on passing the entrance test: Do you tame your hair with mineral based oil, bearing grease, or synthetic oil?

 
I always do the wiggle test of the mirrors, windscreen and makes sure all the screws and fasteners are present. The boards checklist is a big help.

 
So far I'm going to do the following before i put my john Hancock on the papers :) ..

1) Wiggle mirrors

2) Check bag latches are tight (and keep checking every ride for the 1st thousand miles or so....should be a week or so LOL)

3) Check bike over carefully

3) Make sure brake calipers are tight (Don't ask....)

4) Test brakes etc

5) Check all lights

6) Make sure bag liners are present

7) make sure third lock is there

8) Make sure toolkit is there

How do I check that? Is that the same as checking the stem head bearings? (Put bike on center stand, lift front wheel and feel if it's too loose etc?)

Yes, You might mention it to them before you pick it up to make sure they Check this out before you get there.... common oversight.

Looks like you've done your homework -- I hope east coast weather treats you right on Saturday. I've spend some time on various Concours, and have 41,000 on an 06 FJR, and I predict you are really going to like your new FJR.

Next thing to remember is:

Any oil is better than no oil

and

Clean oil is better than dirty oil

See what you can learn from the guys with low membership numbers who post. So treat the new FJR to a couple oil changes early on. If it's clean oil comes out, it won't hurt anything. Just don't ask what kind of oil or the whole thing gets blown into the never ending pointless recurring thread section, which I think is pretty cool. I think that happens mostly on Fridays though.

Yeah, I've read about some really low mileage oil changes (guy's are doing the first oil/filter at 25 miles.... :blink: Me, I'm a big fan of clean oil, but i'll do the first one at 600 miles when I do the first service..(Mind you if the weather would cooperate that would be in a week or so LOL :)
