Looks like I may have gotten too much salt spray on the final drive of my 2006. Over the winter the paint has bubbled and the aluminum underneath is corroded. Does anyone know what to use to prime this after I sandblast it?

my '06 has been doing the same for a while...wondering how hot the pumpkin actually gets.. I have some ceramic silver caliper paint left over from Eastwood that I might try....next winter...

I had mine painted twice (in 250,000 km) by a shop just across the water from you.

Call Sunrise Auto Body in Pictou.

I don't think its heat related. Looks like oxidation caused by moisture, aluminum turns dusty and paint falls off. I thought there was a certain primer used to 'seal' the aluminum. I don't spend much time cleaning and waxing so it is probably my fault due to the salt air environment I live in. My bike spends the summer outside about 100 ft from salt water.

Interesting. I think the things get pretty hot. Mine is a magnet for tar and other road grime. Everywhere else, stuff washes off, but with the FD, whatever's on there is baked on there and requires work to get off. Good luck with the re-paint.

Since I rode my bike to work today I went out to take a look. I see no issues at all with paint deteriorating. 2007 with 51K miles, lives out side but covered like a cocoon.
