It hit 75F here in N. Indiana yesterday and I simply could resist no longer. After 2 neck operations and now Bell's Palsey I haven't been able to ride any of my bikes. Last-pain filled-ride was late Sept of '05 after the first, failed operation. One hour of ever increasing pain...no fun! So I self prescribed a dose of 2 wheeled max fun!!!

While pains are still with me and the right side of my face is essentially paralyzed (therefore I can't blink and keep my eye moist...not good) I rode with my face shield fully down and stopped every once in a while to open shield, remove glasses and manually close my eye which "wipes" the needed moisture over it.

I was only out @ 20-25 miles but it was the BEST time I've had in over 9 months of never ending pain! The ergos, smoothness and power of the FJR make it a superb motorcycle, but then we all know that...right? However, after not being able to ride her for so long the JOY of that brief ride was memorable for me! As the saying goes: one doesn't appreciate what one has...until one doesan't have it. I've been riding for over 4 decades and, Good Lord willing, I'm sure not ready to quit yet. My C5 Corvette is a fine sports car, but she doesn't begin to compare to the fantastic fun of riding my FJR. Wottah GR8 bike!!! She is, for me, the closest thing to a totally perfect street bike that I've ever owned out of 78 bikes so far. DFO :D

We think we got problems and then hear a story like that. Wow. Tears be flowing after that read. But what a testimony for the fjr.

designeraccd - you're the dude! Be careful riding past your limitations.

LOL! Yup, that's why I didn't ride at my "normal" velocities yesterday; must get used to the bike again. Still...any ride is far better than no ride!! Tried my '04 1200R Sportster first: not a good idea given her ergos and harsh ride (aftermarket suspension...she does handle tho...for a Hardlee!) so my FJR came out to play. Much, much better. DFO :D

Good on you for keeping on with keepin' on. I fully understand... I've used milk crates to get on bikes, have strapped canes to the bars, even had folks waiting at the other end so they could 'catch' the bike when I rolled up since I couldn't put legs down. Good on yah again and BEST of luck.

Congrats on getting back on the bike. I'm happy for you that you were able to get a good ride in. I don't have my FJR yet as I still have my Warrior. Once my surgery is complete and I've recovered I'll be making the switch. I hope it just doesn't take too long to recover :coolsmiley02:

Surgery? Not my favorite word! It got over 80F here today so I took the big FJR out for 40sum minutes of fun 'n frolic. Filled her up with fresh gas; durn if I can remember how to zero the tripmeters...not the best ergos there.

Well, back to normal later tonight: rain is moving in with much lower temps. So much for Spring...sigh. DFO

Thank you for sharing honestly and openly. Don't know that I could do it, but now I have role model. If you ever get south of the Mason-Dixon let me know. It would be an honor to meet you, and the others who have responded to tis thread.

You've evidently discovered some very effective medicine. Just what the doctor ordered. Keep increasing the doses. Good luck.
