It hit 75F here in N. Indiana yesterday and I simply could resist no longer. After 2 neck operations and now Bell's Palsey I haven't been able to ride any of my bikes. Last-pain filled-ride was late Sept of '05 after the first, failed operation. One hour of ever increasing pain...no fun! So I self prescribed a dose of 2 wheeled max fun!!!
While pains are still with me and the right side of my face is essentially paralyzed (therefore I can't blink and keep my eye moist...not good) I rode with my face shield fully down and stopped every once in a while to open shield, remove glasses and manually close my eye which "wipes" the needed moisture over it.
I was only out @ 20-25 miles but it was the BEST time I've had in over 9 months of never ending pain! The ergos, smoothness and power of the FJR make it a superb motorcycle, but then we all know that...right? However, after not being able to ride her for so long the JOY of that brief ride was memorable for me! As the saying goes: one doesn't appreciate what one has...until one doesan't have it. I've been riding for over 4 decades and, Good Lord willing, I'm sure not ready to quit yet. My C5 Corvette is a fine sports car, but she doesn't begin to compare to the fantastic fun of riding my FJR. Wottah GR8 bike!!! She is, for me, the closest thing to a totally perfect street bike that I've ever owned out of 78 bikes so far. DFO
