I haven't ridden the S3 so I can't comment on its brakes. I have always found the FJR's brakes to be exceptional - no problem to invoke ABS on dry pavement with a two finger pull. Wonder if the S3 is that much better or whether there is something wrong with your brakes. Yes, the FJR IS a heavy beast and there is lots of momentu to overcome.
Im kind of spoiled by the brakes on the S3 - first of all because the bike is pretty light but mostly because the previous owner put a very large and expensive Brembo master cylinder on it. I did my first stoppie completely by accident at 50 mph a few weeks after I got the bike when someone cut me off. Even at the track, it's pretty much one finger brakes. So essentially it's unreasonable to be able to keep either tire on the ground for any reasonable amount of time.

The brakes on the FJR are certainly enough, Im just need to get used to the bike and its weight

I took FJR Commander's settings and made them a bit more firm for my extra height and weight. As it says below he's set it up for 183 lbs and Im around 235 so I certainly need a bit more.

The two mile commute to work certainly yielded a better ride but the real test will be on Friday when I head the 120 miles home.

Im hoping the bike wont be so flaccid after this.

thanks, Commander!

FJR CommanderRider weight: 183 lbs.
Typical Bike Payload: Yamaha side bags and top bag, 25 lbs. added cargo
Riding style: Moderately aggressive, frequent 3-digit speeds, rapid braking and acceleration common.

FRONT
* Preload, Line-2 (this means one line exposed above the cap, one line flush with the cap/adjuster). Stock setting is Line-3.
* Rebound, 6 clicks out. Stock setting is 12-clicks out. (this is the top adjustment)
* Compression, 8 clicks out. Stock setting is 12-clicks out. (this is the bottom adjustment that protrudes off the side of the fork)

REAR
* Preload - Hard (find the lever!)
* Rebound - 6 clicks out. Stock is 10-clicks out. (think of the rear rebound clicker as a right-hand thread)

I got my '07 working pretty well with some settings I got here back in the day....when I got to around 30k miles I had the forks revalved/resprung and an Eibach spring in back for my weight (about the same as yours) and riding style. I was really pleased how well that worked - though at 30k it benefitted from a refresh, let alone stouter springs.

The new leftover '12 I'm picking up next weekend will probably get the same stuff done a bit earlier in it's life - though once the oem stuff was dialed in I really thought it worked pretty well for an old sportbike guy.

I haven't been on here since around Spring 2010 when I traded the '07 for a Guzzi 1200 Sport....but the FJR made such a good impression I look forward to another Gen II.

Wonder if the same guys are still making the same cool **** for 'em - Garaud's rack/backrest and light mounts were killer pieces.

that is pretty dammed good deal for those.... the bike has a brand new PR rear and is in need of a new PR front badly.... so it looks like ill be using those for at least one more rear.

I finally got the chance to do a little canyon work this morning and man this bike is a bit portly. I was really bummed to realize that the linked braking will make the bike stand up in the corners - annoying without question and necessary?

either way, sooner or later ill do a full report for the hell of it.
