The stepson and I went down to Perry State Forrest Saturday. Wish we'd have gone a little bit further down to Monday Creek in Wayne N.F. Perry was more suited to 4 wheelers with a lot of softball sized gravel filling in ruts. It was kinda slick when we did find dirt from the rain Friday night. Not exactly Ideal for 2 dirt newbs. Matt just got his temps last year and hasn't had a whole lot of practice. Riding around the yard couldn't prepare him for this, but he did good. I kept turning around to make sure he was still behind me and neither one of us crashed.

In case of insomnia....watch this.

Loaded up and ready to head home. This was the first time I towed with the Jetta TDI and I was impressed. It handled the SE Ohio hills easily and still got about 31 mpg on a windy day.

Cool video - thanks for sharing.

I've got a '10 Jetta TDI sedan. Does your wagen have the manual or DSG trans? I'm considering a hitch for mine in order tow a single place trailer to get my DRZ400SM to SE Ohio, WV, or W. NC.

Don't beat yourself up if you weren't comfortable on that drain rock. That didn't look especially fun. Glad you got the bike up and running so you can get out and explore the great wide-open. A little humidity going on there?

It's an '10 with DSG, I shifted manually to keep the revs between about 1.6 to 2.4k to keep the turbo spooled. It pulled like a champ! Go for it.

Next time we're definately going down to Wayne, they have a lot more trails down there. Live and learn...

Yeah, I need a dessicant strip for the GoPro case for sure!

Thanks! We still had a good time despite the crappy trails. After a while we decided to just run around the gravel roads inside the park since we both had plates. Matt asked when we could go again on the way home so it didn't phase him too much!

It was a challenge all right! Personally I'd prefer more dirt and less rocks! This bike's gonna get me in trouble...I've been commuting on it lately, hard to beat 55mpg, but I keep 'seeing' places to take it off road where I really shouldn't. Yesterday I took a little detour behind a shopping center where there's a big empty sloped field. Down at the end was a dry retention pond I took a few laps around and caught a little air coming out of it. Don't tell anybody!
