Welcome to the "Clutchless Collective". It's a blast playing with the gears and not worrying about the clutch at times. It doesn't make me like or dislike a clutch bike any more or less. Good thing, or I wouldn't like the Hayabusa that also sits in my stable.

Cheers. B)

Does yours knock a little during a cold start? Mine does, but still haven't seen the absolute fix here on the forum on the threads I've read.
Then you're not looking hard enough.

Howie,

I have an AE model. Still no confirmed posting of an AE model with a 2K warm up idle and an 1100 RPM. Can the machine be adjusted in this manner? At high idle, my auto clutch won't engage easily.

Thanks,

I truly believe Yamaha purposely lowered the fast idle on the Gen IIs BECAUSE of the AE.

The lower idle is a compromise to keep it high enough to prevent stalling, while not too high to cause accidental drive-offs. The compromise is the motor is right on the edge of stalling at times, hence the clunking.

So the lowered fast idle becomes an across-the-line "feature" and everyone suffers...A models and AE models.

So for AE owners, the only options I can see are living with a low cold idle, or bump it up and force the rider to wait until warmup before engaging the gearbox.

Rider's choice.....clunk or wait.

Howie,

I will definitely increase my warm-up idle and wait. Or maybe occasionally ride into the the back of the garage wall on startup. ;) Your posts have been quite helpful as usual. Best of luck getting that beauty of yours back on the road. Keep us all updated.
