Both CycleWorld and Rider have tests on the C14 this month (Oct 07 issues). Cycle World's dyno numbers seem to be the most accurate as they had the high spped fans working to optimize the ram air design. The Borla dyno's high-speed fans were down when Rider tested the bike. CW posted 136.9 hp at 9200 rpm and a very nice torque curve that peaked at 92 ft# at 7300 rpm.
Face it guys, the motor out performs the FJR's and the C14 is a serious contender for the sport-bike crown. There will be comparison tests coming soon, but that won't end the debate. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. No bike is perfect for everyone and we always want more power.
I read both magazines yesterday and when I looked at the torgue output between 3-8000 rpms, it seemed to be a draw with the FJR holding a slight advantage below 4,000 rpms. I think Kawasaki makes great motors but ram air is really overrated since it doesn't start to work until 90 mph. What I like best about the C14 is how smooth the engine is, any power advantage over the FJR at high rpms is going to be at least partially offset by the 693 pound wet weight, which is 40 pounds more than my 05 ABS.
I wish someone would end the speculation about the C14 valve adjustment intervals, I have read 15,000 miles on the Concours forums, Rider said 24,000 miles, and Cycle World said 26,000 miles. Whatever it is, it is going to be a lot more labor intensive than the FJR.
