A really big thank you for sharing this great trip with all the cool photos and the comments. Definitely makes me want to go there as well someday.

Outstanding report, thanks for the tour of Iceland! :clapping: :clapping: :clapping: :clapping: :clapping:
Would it be worth renting a "street bike" for a ride around there or are there some sections of the country that are simply all dirt roads? Is it even possible?
There are a lot of street bikes in Iceland and you could ride the "ring road" and go all the way around Iceland on pavement.

In fact on the first day I rode with an FJR rider but my little Yamaha couldn't keep up.

It would be a decent trip and you would see quite a bit. Unfortunately you could not do much in the West Fjords and the highlands would be out of the question which would be a shame to travel all that way and miss so much in my view.

How about a BMW 1200GS. It is big and roomy and with the right tires will handle the gravel nicely. The only downside is that you have to buy Rukka riding gear which is expensive. I know because that is what I have. Every Euro Beemer rider I saw had on Rukka gear which is funny because the North American Beemer crowd all wear the Beemer gear. The other downside is everyone will think you are German because every German rider I met was on a GS Beemer.

PS - There are no "dirt" roads in Iceland. There are ROCK roads in Iceland.

Just checking in. Well guys it was truly an amazing two weeks. I turned the bike in yesterday and am working on the last two days of the ride report (video uploading to YouTube as we speak). It's raining in Reykjavik right now but if the weather clears I am hoping to take a heli-tour of the Eyjafjallajokull volcano tomorrow.

Hope to see some of you soon at the WCR.

Outstanding ride. The wife was looking over my shoulder a few days ago saying "Wow!" to the pictures. I am really enjoying the RR. I think it unlikely I'll ever have the chance to go to Iceland, so this was the next best thing. Thanks!

I hope to see you in Vancouver.

On the last day in Reykjavik the skies were clear and I blew the budget and took a small plane ride over the volcanos.

Unfortunately you are going to have to wait until I get home and upload the photos to the photo server but it should be something special. Unbelievable way to end this trip!!!

OK, I'm done.

I added the last two posts and I've checked off Iceland on the bucket list. :yahoo:

The whole nine yards is over on my ADV Rider thread

I've got the WCR coming up in September but then what???

Well, it will be summer in Chile soon...

Ride the World my friends!!
