Not really...but it was an international group.

Shown below are Penny & Mike (Canada), Stef (Italy), Travis & Jim (USA)

Penny & Jim were visiting Tennessee. They went to WFO and then back across country to TN...almost 3 weeks on the road. Stef was visiting his friend Jim from NC.

Stef and Jim rode from Fontana Village and Penny, Mike and I rode from Johnson City, TN. We all hooked up in Asheville, NC. From there, we headed north on the Blue Ridge Parkway in pleasant, sunny weather. We stopped at a vista point (below) to enjoy the view and Stef deployed his helmet cam...which later fell off only to become a "hand-cam."

We stopped for lunch in Switzerland...Little Switzerland...Blue Ridge Parkway...USA. Here's a classic "Michaelangelo" pose to document the event.

From there, we continued up the BRP as the weather got worse. Finally, we stopped to don rain gear and Penny included her thermal liner. It rained until we exited the BRP and rode thru Boone, NC. As the sun came out, we were getting very hot in all the rain gear and stopped at a convenience store to stow the gear and get a soda. The kind ladies in the store took pity on us sweaty riders and took us back to the "cold room" where we soaked up the frigid air! :yahoo:

We departed Boone and had an uneventful ride up to Mountain City and hit the eastern end of 421...aka Shady Valley...aka "The Snake." :yahoo: :clapping: :yahoo:

After a spirited ride on the eastern leg of 421 (the asphalt was dry), we stopped at The Country Store at Shady Valley crossroads for a short break. Stef and Jim still had a long ride in front of them as they had to get back to Fontana Village that evening. After consulting a map, we decided to finish off The Snake's western leg and then head back to Johnson City. After a brief stop at the motel where Mike and Penny were staying, I led Stef and Jim on some back roads to connect to the highway taking them back toward Fontana.

It was a long day, with varying weather conditions, but, I think, all enjoyed the roadways of NC and TN.

And, I probably shouldn't mention this...so don't tell anybody about this last picture. It's Stef's ride for the day...   :p  :yahoo:

It was really embarassing to have this "thing" tagging along, scraping hard parts in an effort to keep up w/ the magnificent FJR's but, alas, we did let him catch up...on occasion...as long as he maintained decent separation so no one would know he was w/ our group. :yahoo:

Hey Mike,

Travis told me that Stef was flying thru town. I was wondering how it went. Looks like you had a good time.

See ya' @ EOM in... ABOUT A MONTH!!!

Heidi

Hello, Heidi

Yeah...it was a pretty good day. It was nice to meet some other FJR pilots...as you know, FJR's are relatively rare in East Tennessee.

The weather didn't exactly cooperate but the rain was pretty much limited to the northern part of our ride on the BRP. Fortunately, the asphalt in SV was dry...unlike when In10city was here. I scraped pegs on both sides yesterday...always spooks me when that happens. :yahoo:

And, then, there was this Hardley...

I'll see you at EOM...I plan to meet up w/ the group in SV on Fri and check-in to the motel on Fri pm...do NOT expend all the frivolity on Thurs nite!! :drinks: :fans:

hey brazos,

thanks for the update on mike and penny! i was just wondering how they were doing over the WFO section. glad to see they are still rollin!

They left Johnson City this morning (in the rain) heading over to the BRP, and northward from there. All seem well with them.

Hey Slappy,

What a great day it was! Jim and I loved it and want to thank our riding buddies Mike-H and Penny, Brazos Parker and yourself for making it happen. The BRP is awesome, and so is the Shady Valley "Snake".

We finally made it to Fontana Dam by 9:15 PM after extensively twisting the right wrist whenever we could.

The State Trooper that gave us a warning that very morning had already punched out by the time we passed by in the opposite direction (this time he'd have busted us for sure).

The only flak we caught was from our brides :glare: . We did not (could not) call them with an ETA as our resort had no telephone in the units and no cell service. By the time we roared up to the cabin they were worried stiff.

Stef

@ Stef....55 and still alive. Happy Birthday. Sorry I didn't get to hook up with you guys. Maybe next year!

Don't drive off into the bushes with that big bad HD.

Thanks bros. Lemme tell ya, that bike is not as bad as it's cracked up to be...there's an FJR in there waitin' to come out... :yahoo:

(ever drive a delivery van down the Gap?)

The funny thing is, I was the only dude on a Harley wearing a full-face helmet and strictly ATGATT.

Sure drew some funny stares. Lotsa Harleystas in tank-tops and I even saw some folks heading for the Gap bare chested (thank God mostly guys).

It was a trip to remember. I've got a video to prove I was there, too :D and I'll put it on the Forum real soon.
